Last week we headed into Birmingham city centre to visit the pop up shop in the Bullring Shopping Centre, where skribbies had a store for the week.
Skribbies are an interesting concept; shoes that are customisable with the included felt tip pens and plastic stickers. They are a bit like whiteboard shoes!
As well as the tools to customise your shoes, you are provided with the tool to wipe them clean; a funky little wristband that colour coordinates with the shoes means you always have an eraser to wipe away your drawing. There is even a little loop in the wristband to store a pen.
These high top trainers are available in Neon Black, Blue Blue and Pink Red, sizes UK Infant 10 to Adult 3, and cost £39.99 per pair. Jennifer, the creator of these funky shoes, told us that more styles and colours are coming soon!
The pop-up shop was attractive and there were some great displays of the shoes, accessories, and the handmade monsters they had on sale too.
We were there with “Clearly Bex” and her children Lewis & Leah, and it wasn’t long before Georgie and Lewis were sat side by side scribbling on the shoes. Georgie’s feet are still a little bit small for her pair, but Lewis reported back that the shoes are very comfy.
I was given two pairs of the shoes; one for my eldest girl, and another for my niece Izzy. I took them along to our family gathering at the weekend and the two girls had a great time customising Izzy’s new shoes with the included pens. Izzy, who turned four in September, is a size nine so it won’t be long until her pair fit. She had a bit of a stubborn moment and didn’t want to try hers on, despite really enjoying colouring them in.
According to the skribbies site, the ink is pretty durable after a short while, and should resist water and stay put whilst running about. From what I saw of them being played with over the past week, it would probably be a good idea to put them to one side for a little bit after your child has finished drawing their design, so that it doesn’t get erased accidentally early on.
I think these shoes are a fun concept but that £39.99 is a touch expensive for the quality of the shoe – they may be comfy but they feel cheaper than they cost – but you do get all the added bits as well as the shoes themselves.
