Manufacturer’s Description: An action packed Take-n-Play™ Portable Playset for the Thomas & Friends™ Take-n-Play™ die-cast line. It’s the opening day of the snake ride at the Sodor Amusement Park, and the real life snake has gone missing! Thomas has the very important job of helping to search for the snake. He starts at the top level of the ride and rides down into the snake head. Push the handle and the giant snake ride begins! Thomas is brought back up to the top level to check for the snake again! Kids will love taking Thomas on this “snake ride” over and over again. When the snake head is raised, Thomas is let back down to the lower lever where he and the child can search for the missing snake hiding behind the stone wall. Clip the Thomas train engine and snake figure into the set and lift the easy-carry tail handle for on-the-go portable playset fun!

Review: It is Thomas & Friends’ 70th birthday this year! To celebrate, we have been sent this Rattling Railsss Take-n-Play set to review. Georgie and Lydia were excited as soon as it arrived – they are both huge Thomas friends, and we have lots of the books and toys. Reverend W. Awdry was actually living about a mile from where we live at the moment, when he published the first Thomas book, back in 1945!

The set comes in quite a few pieces but it is fairly easy to put together following the instructions provided. The quality of the plastic was obviously good and it clicks together nicely.

The idea of this toy is that Thomas is riding the snake ride at the new amusement park, looking for the real snake who has gone missing! (HINT: It’s behind the wall – if your child agrees to actually let you put it there).

You pop Thomas into the tail of the snake, and he races down to the snake head. Push down on the handle at the top of the play set, and the snake lifts and spirals around the centre column, opening it’s mouth and Thomas rolls out of the mouth back into the tail. A little mechanism in the tail prevents Thomas from racing back down the snake until the mouth moves back down.

We were also sent this Busy Bee James train – how cute is this? The trains in the Take-n-Play range are all made from die-cast metal and are fantastic quality. We haven’t had any problems whatsoever with any of our Take-n-Play trains falling out or getting a case of wobbly wheel, so we are fans of these little engines – they put up with a lot of preschooler play!

Georgie loved this set straight away and although it took her a little while to get the hang of pushing down on the handle and sending Thomas back to the start, she was soon sending James down too – and then his tender, and then every other engine we have from the range, and then the little snake, too – it has definitely been thoroughly tested!

We took this set and the Dino Run set that we previously reviewed along with us on holiday recently, and the girls loved playing with both of the sets together. The trains were pushed from one set to another and sent flying down the dino ramp and then round the snake ride. Buckets of fun!

We give this Thomas & Friends playset 4 stars. The girls have been having a great time with it but it is a little tricky to get used to, and the price is a little high for what you get.
