Thomas & Friends Weekends at Drayton Manor, home of Thomas Land

Disclosure: we were provided with free entry to the park & complimentary refreshments for the purpose of this post.

On Saturday Lydia turned three – and she got to spend the day at Thomas Land at Drayton Manor, what a fab birthday treat! We were invited to come along and review the popular family attraction, that’s perfect for Thomas & Friends fans for all ages.

Rather fantastically, we were able to enter the park an hour early, which gave us some time to go on lots of rides. It was great to have the park just to ourselves and the other bloggers there for a bit!

Thomas Land has a great selection of rides for all ages, with everything from a kiddie rollercoaster for adventurous kids (and one of the best ones we’ve come across) to slow & steady rides for little tots. There are rides that let you fly up into the air, and rides that spin you round & round. With over 15 rides for little ones, plus a fab soft play area, there really is something for everyone.

On Saturday, Rosie & Thomas were pulling the trains from Thomas Land to Spencer’s Outdoor Adventure Play & back again. The girls were really excited to watch both engines at work, and got excited every time they saw either train.

We spent the morning enjoying the different rides, and also checked out the VIP rooms in the Sodor Airport building, which were launched last year as part of the Thomas Land expansion.

The rooms are great, with murals depicting scenes from the series on the walls, comfy seating & interactive fun for the kids to explore. Each room has a door that opens out onto a balcony, with fantastic views of the whole park.

After some refreshments, we explored some more, and went on the Winston’s Whistle Stop Tours monorail ride, which the girls love as you get to look down and see everyone in the park. We had a mini spending spree in the shop, where we let Lydia choose herself a birthday treat, and then ate some fab pies for lunch.

A wander through the Zoo is always a highlight for a visit to Drayton Manor, and the girls loved looking at all the different animals, many of which were enjoying an afternoon snooze after their own lunches!

Once we reached the other side, the girls enjoyed a quick run around Spencer’s Outdoor Adventure Play which is a great adventure playground. We hitched a ride with Rosie back to Thomas Land, and headed home with two very tired little girls!

As we walked through the exit to the car park, Lydia looked up at me and said “I had a great day, Mummy” – what more could you want on your 3rd birthday?!

We are headed back to Thomas Land this weekend too, for the second Thomas & Friends weekend, and meeting up with my sister & her family for the day. The girls are already excited to go back to one of their favourite places, I don’t think they can get enough!

  1. It sounds like your two girls had a fabulous day. What a great way to celebrate your daughters birthday! We visited Thomas Land last weekend and also thoroughly enjoyed the new Thomas themed rides and Sodor Airport. I can also recommend the Drayton Manor Hotel. I definitely think it is a must visit attraction for parents with any little Thomas fans:) #TriedTested

    1. They really did! Lydia was quite happy to postpone her birthday party for a week to spend the day at Thomas Land instead.

We live so close that we’ve never needed to stay at the hotel but I have heard great things about it! My brother wants to visit the part with my Thomas-mad nephew so they may stay there at some point I think.

  2. Happy birthday Lydia! What a great place to go and celebrate, there is so much outdoor fun there I can imagine it is a child’s heaven to spend a day there. I’m not surprised you are taking advantage of the chance to pop back again. Do join me for Country Kids. Stopping by from #TriedTested

  3. Went to Thomasland years ago when the boy was obsessed! Took six hours to get there lol although it was smaller than expected it really is an amazing place – happy birthday to Lydia looks like you had a fab time x

    1. It was massively expanded last year and feels much bigger now, but less busy at the same time – there are more open spaces in the new area so everyone spreads out a lot more. We are lucky enough to be just under 45 minutes away so a very easy journey for a day out.

Thanks for the birthday wishes! She had a great day 🙂

    1. Thanks Erica, I’m really pleased with that photo too! I took my big lens but unfortunately my battery died and my replacement spare hadn’t arrived yet (my old one disappeared when we emptied the living room to decorate it!)

  4. Aww what a way to spend your third birthday! It looked like you all had fun. We took the boys a couple of years ago for the first time and they absolutely adored it. My youngest was a little too youg to fully enjoy it though so definitely plan to go back again to visit #TriedTested

    1. I would definitely recommend it, especially if you have Thomas fans on your hands! Lydia was squealing “There’s THOMAS!!” all day, it was adorable! There are loads of rides for kids of all ages – it really is the best theme park for children that we’ve visited, and we’ve been to a fair few!

  5. My boys love Thomas Land, how fab that she got to go on her Birthday! We think Ava might be big enough now to enjoy some of the rides so are hoping to go later in the year. Thanks for linking to #PickNMix

  6. I’ve never been to Drayton Manor, it’s a bit of a trek from Cornwall 😉 but it looks like a lot of fun. My boys used to love Thomas the Tank when they were small, I don’t miss accidentally standing on the toy metal trains without shoes on!

  7. Looks as though the girls had a great day out. It will be interesting to see if they take Izzy under their wing next week
