5 great accessories for the Canon G7X Mark II camera

Earlier this year I treated myself to a new camera: the Canon G7X Mark II (US/Global link). It is a beautiful little camera, and brilliant for blogging – I really enjoy filming videos on it and I’ve taken some lovely photos of the children with it too. My YouTube videos have certainly improved since I got it, and I’m looking forward to doing more vlogging over the next year.

I’ve been asked a few times what accessories I have for it – which case I recommend, that sort of thing – so I thought I would share them in a blog post so I can just link straight to it when I get asked… rather than digging through my Amazon purchase history every time. So without any further ado, here our my favourites:

1. Case Logic Hard Shell Case (US/Global link)

I prefer to use my camera ‘naked’ so didn’t opt for any of the snug fitting cases available, and instead went for this hard shell one from Case Logic. The inside of the case is really nicely lined with super soft furry fabric on once side, there is a small pocket for accessories, and it unzips three quarters of the way around so you can open it right up to get the camera in & out. I keep my G7X in this case when it is in one of my larger handbags or a rucksack.

2. Manfrotto PIXI Mini Tripod (US/Global link)

I wanted a small but sturdy tripod for my new camera and this little handbag friendly sized one is perfect. It can also be used as a handle when the legs are closed – which is great for vlogging on the move and that kind of thing.

3. Micromuff Skinny Wind Muffler

The microphone on the top of the G7X can pick up a lot of wind noise, so this tiny muffler can have a big impact on the quality of my videos on a breezy day. I had to trim one bit of the velcro slightly for it to fit on the camera without preventing the flash from popping up, but since that it’s been great. I keep the fluffy bit tucked away in a little zippered purse I keep in my bag, along with my SD to lightning adapter, which I use to quickly import photos onto my iPad, and a couple of Zeiss lens wipes which are handy to have in there.

4. Andoer 360 Degree Time Lapse Tripod Adapter (US/Global link)

This one is a bit of fun, and allows you to create time lapses while your camera pans around. You can see it in action at around 7:10 in our Felixstowe holiday video below. It’s basically like a egg timer which can be attached to a tripod, if desired, or just used on a flat surface.

5. Savvies Screen Protector (US/Global link)

These are just a set of cheap protectors I found with good reviews – I don’t need a tempered glass one on my camera, and it lets me slip the camera in & out of pockets and bags without worrying too much about any scratches. It has marked up a bit over the last 4 or 5 months, but I have 5 more from the original order, so I can just put another on when it bugs me too much.

And a bonus: DSTE Spare Battery (US/global alternative)

This is the battery I bought to use as a spare – and so far it has worked fine. It charges fine, and I haven’t noticed the battery life being any different to the original Canon one.

Well, there you have it. If anyone has any other good suggestions let me know!
