A bit of a mixed week – Little Loves

I have been reading #LittleLoves posts on a few blogs for a while now and have really enjoyed them, as they give a little glimpse into what is going on in the everyday lives of bloggers. I decided I would try to join in most weeks and as I was horribly ill yesterday I’m going to start today, a day late, instead (oops!).

So, without further ado, here’s what we’ve been getting up to this week:

I’ve been indulging in a Kindle Unlimited subscription and the vast world of Jane Austen variations available on there – complete comfort reading as I have been been quite ill with a nasty stomach upset, a handful of migraines, plus a run of cluster headaches that made me feel like a poker was inserted into my eye socket and waggled about (it’s fun to be me sometimes). My favourite authors have been Jennifer Joy & KaraLynn Mackrory

I also got around to reading Christina Jones’s Novella “Those Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days” which is a return to the world of Hazy Hassocks and her ever so slightly magical group of characters. Feel good fiction!

Watched

This week I’ve watched the entirety of The Guild, and a whole bunch of hilarious other stuff on the Geek & Sundry YouTube channel. That channel is addictive! I’ve basically been extreme binge watching in an effort to ignore the fact I feel awful.

The Guild is a web series created by the so called “Queen of the Geeks” Felicia Day and tells the story of a group of gamers who play a MMORPG (Massively multiplayer online role-playing game) called The Game, which has more than a passing resemblance to World of Warcraft. It’s funny, and nerdy, and sweet, and slightly ridiculous. If you want a glimpse into the life and mind of someone who feels a lot more comfortable behind a keyboard than out in the real world (ahem) this web series is a great insight.

On our Now TV subscription I’ve been enjoying Switched at Birth, having watched the entirety of Body of Proof over the last month or two. 

Wore

Georgie has a brand new Ben & Holly jumper knitted by her Grandma, so that has been the highlight in the clothing department this week! She is incredibly delighted with it and was showing random kids in the street her new jumper. My Mum is very talented when armed with a pair of needles.

Heard

I’ve been listening to the audiobook of Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen (read by Nadia May) whilst doing the housework, and as for music I have been enjoying the Pitch Perfect soundtracks this week.

Made

I made a bit of a mess doing face paint for the girls this week! They found the face paint sticks I won ages ago in a box and I decided to indulge them. Lydia wanted a flower on her cheek and Georgie wanted to have a butterfly. It’s not great as they are just cheap & cheerful sticks rather than proper paints, but the kids were over the moon.

We also made some changes to our living room – the girls were outgrowing their old wooden stools and chairs and so we replaced them with some new sturdy “rainbow chairs” from Ikea. The girls are in love with them, and they match our rug and table perfectly. We have a very colourful living room as it doubles as our playroom so the girls spend most of their time in there and I want it to be a fun place to be for them.

Not to leave the kids out, Georgie made this picture for her cousin Izzy who visited us on Wednesday. She was concerned that her zeds looked liked twos though! It is our family + Izzy and Auntie Jennie (sorry Uncle Andrew, I think she ran out of space!), flowers, and the sun. Georgie is drawing a lot at the moment – mostly people, houses, and since our trip to Bristol last weekend, hot air balloons.

and lastly…

I’ve had major laptop drama this week! To make a bad week worse, my secondary laptop hard drive started to report that it was failing and ever so politely advised that I move my files before I lost them. I do have backups of all our important things – we have a CrashPlan setup that backs up all my important data both to our local home server and also to their cloud servers – but it would have been a pain in the bum to have to recover everything to another drive that way.

I had to spend two days rearranging files so that my data from my 1TB drive in my laptop was in sensible places and I had the total file size down small enough to move onto a 500GB laptop drive we had lying around the house using a laptop HDD caddy we also had in the house already (we really are a geeky family), and then perform laptop surgery to replace the drive that was previously living in my optical drive slot. To make matters worse the cable connecting the drive to the logic board started to go dodgy and I had to order a replacement, and take it all apart again to refit it.

Basically, I’m down 500GB of hard drive space and I’ve taken my laptop apart 3 times in as many days. Bummer.

There have been some lovely moments this week despite the very bad pain days and laptop issues though – my sister and her family visited on Wednesday for a few hours, and my friend D came round to spend an evening with us too. Yay for socialising without having to leave the house.

Oops. Rambled on a bit there, that’s what comes of having an accidental almost-break from blogging. Hope you’re all having a great weekend!
