While we were in Cornwall last week, we spent a total of three sunny afternoons at the beach. Georgie had a great time playing in the sand, collecting pebbles, building dams and playing with a little girl called H (the daughter of my Dad’s ex-colleague & friend).
Our little girl was also what I would call an Enthusiastic Paddler. So much so that we declared it a new beach activity; Extreme Toddler Paddling.
Georgiana (or Georgie-NarNar, as she has begun to call herself) absolutely LOVED the sea this visit. The classic “jump the waves” game was a big hit, and Georgie just strode further into the water every time she was paddling, dragging whichever grandparent was holding onto her into the sea behind her.
Bank Holiday Monday she was in the water up to her armpits, and again on the Friday. Her first paddling session on the Sunday, our first beach day, resulted in her Grandma’s shorts getting rather wet… we didn’t anticipate Mum getting dragged in quite so far so Mum was just in shorts & a t-shirt. Following that slight soaking we opted for someone wearing swimwear to be responsible for accompanying Georgie on her Extreme Toddler Paddling adventures!
Although she loved the waves and was grinning her face off despite her chattering teeth, she wasn’t too happy when Dad failed to lift her up fast enough to “jump” a big wave and she got a big face full of water! She got over the trauma fairly quickly though, after being returned to her Grandma for cuddles, warm clothes and a snuggly towel.
I think we’ve probably had the last of the good weather & opportunities for beach trips now – I don’t think we’ll be going in the sea when we’re in Wales next month, and Christmas in Cornwall is going to be more about snuggling in front of the fire, rather than dipping our toes and toddler into the Atlantic Ocean! Georgie will have to wait until Summer 2014 to continue her Extreme Toddler Paddling adventures!
