While you can subscribe to my blog a number of ways, I always recommend RSS as my favoured subscription method. Almost every blog and news website out there has an RSS feed (here’s mine!) and it’s a fab way to read all your favourite blogs in one place!
RSS officially stands for “RDF Site Summary”, though I prefer the alternative “Really Simple Syndication” – though you don’t need actually to know that! You just need to know that it’s a way to gather together posts from all the great blogs that are out there on the net into one easy to read pile. You’ll even be able to tell which posts you’ve read, and which you haven’t got around to yet! I follow a lot of blogs, and find it really useful to be able to sort them into different folders – this way you can read one folder at a time, say all your mummy blogs at once, then all your beauty blogs or world news in another, and so on.
I’ll let the guys at Common Craft explain it themselves – this video is a must watch for anyone interested in using RSS:
Personally, my favourite RSS reader is Google Reader, although I normally use the Reeder iPhone, iPad & Mac apps to actually read the posts! Google Reader is really easy to use, and you can even subscribe to your friends shared posts, which will help you discover great new blogs!
For blog owners: I recommend that you promote your RSS feed in your sidebar to help your readers find their way, and that you use feedburner with your feed – it’s a fab freebie service which makes your feed more user friendly – when people visit your feed page they are presented with some easy peasy subscribe options, and it standardises your feed content, just in case your blog software is making something a little wonky. Also, you can see how many people who are subscribed, which is always good!
If you don’t want to subscribe via RSS to my blog, you can use one of these options instead:
- ‘Like’ my Facebook page – most of my blog posts are auto posted onto the page to keep you updated! I say ‘most’ because I don’t usually bother to send over every smaller post (the asides, status updates, some of the photos, etc) so I don’t over clutter people’s walls!
- Subscribe via email – you’ll get an email for every post I write, apart from the photos & status updates. Just pop your email address into the form below to subscribe!
