Last month we headed over to the NEC for MCM Comic Con, accompanied by a pint-sized Supergirl (carrying around her very own mini-me ) and a very excited Scooby Doo.
Thousands of fans attended the event, and there was lots to see… and buy! We had a lot of fun browsing the different stalls, and let the girls choose a souvenir each, as well as doing a lucky dip. Lydia found a plush of Bowser which she really loves, and Georgie got some kawaii stationery from the tofu cute stand (I might actually have to make an order from their website in time for Christmas).
There may have been some sneaky (and not-so-sneaky!) Christmas shopping going on too, Game had the Nintendo Classic SNES in stock so I bought one of those for James – he’ll either be unwrapping it on Christmas Day or two days later on his birthday… I’m not saying here so I can keep him in suspense! Lydia and I chose him a few more gifts too, and I got an awesome Disney Princess Christmas jumper too.
We checked out the kids area where the girls had their faces painted and chilled out on the beanbags reading a book. Unfortunately it wasn’t quite as fun as last year’s kids zone, which had a fun circus skills area, as well as a sticker collecting hunt around the whole con, with a cape for a reward. This year they had the capes but they forgot to print the cards so they were skipping the sticker part and just handing them out to anyone who wanted one.
There was a fun Esdevium Games area where our Dobble obsessed girls played a few games of their favourite card game. We were introduced to Cortex as well, which looks like a lot of fun.
Both girls, and Lydia in particular, really enjoyed seeing everyone cosplaying all day. I took a lot of photos of Georgie and Lydia with different characters, especially the many princesses (Disney and Zelda)! They met up with their friend from school Lucas a couple of times, too, which they found hilariously thrilling. All of the people we met were really friendly and happy to pose with the girls… and Belle even let Lydia hold her Chip mug.
We enjoyed a few of the talks in the main theatre stage and at the MYM Buzz area, as well as watching the Cosplay Masquerade competition at the end of the day, too.
Overall we did have a great day out despite the Kids Zone not quite living up to last year. The show itself seemed bigger and better so that was great, and we picked up some great souvenirs too. It is a great family day out and the girls really enjoyed themselves – and bonus, kids are free!
