Manufacturer’s Description: Pink Arrow balance bike is the first bicycle that helps children to acquire the necessary balance on two wheels. Acting as a comfortable stepping stone to pedalled bicycles, the balance bike is made from ultra-light metal. The handlebars and seat are adjustable to suit the child’s height.
Review: Lydia and Georgie both love playing outside, and really enjoy different play equipment like bikes, trikes and scooters. Both of them play with this kind of equipment at their schools, and I knew that Lydia would enjoy having her very own bike at home. Her favourite colour is pink (my girly girl!), so this Chicco Pink Arrow bike is perfect for her.
The bike comes well packed, in a sturdy box, with bubble wrap and tape protecting the pieces of bike inside. As you can see, Lydia was eager to get it unpacked and built in time for the school run and a first trial ride to pick up Georgie!
Inside the box, the bike is in four pieces, and you get a spanner and the fixings to put it all together. The instructions are really easy to follow and we had it put together in about 10 minutes, which included the time I spent adjusting the bike seat to Lydia’s height.
The bike looks really great all put together, and is really sturdy feeling, without being too heavy – Lydia can easily lift it herself to go up stairs, and so on. The handles of the bike have textured grips to ensure no slips, and the seat is padded for comfort. The wheels are really sturdy and have dealt well with the rough tarmac paths between our house and the school.
Lydia has been riding her bike almost every day since it arrived – she loves to use it to go and collect Georgie from school, and also has used it to ride the mile long (and hilly) walk back from her preschool. It definitely speeds her up quite a bit – she is really quick on it and very confident.
Using a balance bike is a great way for children to learn how to keep their bike upright as they free-wheel with their feet held up, and I’m hopeful that we will be able to skip using stabilisers altogether when we move onto a pedal bike in a year or so.
Lydia has just turned four and is around average height for her age, and this bike is a great size for her. She finds it comfortable and a good height for her at the moment. You can tell how much she loves it in this video:
5 stars for this lovely little bike, it’s perfect for beginners! Chicco also do little bikes similar to this one in red or yellow.
