As this is my first time joining in with this linky, I will explain a bit. The aim of the “Word of the Week” project is to reflect on the week just passed, and sum it up with a single word. I love this idea as a way of documenting what’s happened in the week in a new & interesting way, and I agree with The Reading Residence in her #wotw introductory post; the written word is a powerful thing.
My word, summing up the past 7 days, is:
What else could it be?! We bought a house! James and I have been renting together for over six years so to finally be homeowners and not be subject to the whim of our landlord feels amazing. Our last two landlords were just awful! We had to fight to have a faulty smoke alarm replaced, spent months in adjudication to get our deposits back for each house, had belongings ruined thanks to a leaking roof and massive damp issues, and generally had broken promises and terrible maintenance. People say that the benefit of renting is that the maintenance of the house is problem free – but in our experience you have to nag and beg for even the simplest & most necessary of repairs. It is so thrilling to be free of all of that!
Since getting the keys on Monday, James has been moving our belongings from storage into the house, and sending me lots of pictures of the inside of the house. I haven’t set foot there since our viewing on 9th November, so I can’t remember everything about the place that is now ours! Georgie was thrilled to see the photo of her “proper bed” all built & waiting for her, after her Daddy took it away from here at the weekend. She is happy talking about our new house and what we will have there. She certainly found the information that she’ll be getting her amazing Kiddicare toy kitchen back thrilling!
As well as all the house excitement, we headed to the zoo at the weekend. I will post more about our trip tomorrow for #CountryKids, but I can tell you watching a full grown tiger devour her meal just a few metres away was very thrilling indeed.
As were the views from the top of Warbstow Bury, where I went for a long walk on Wednesday. Lydia was strapped to my back in my amazingly comfy Snugiwraps Mei Tai, and Georgie impressed me by happily walking for over two hours.
It has definitely been a thrilling week 🙂

Wow congratulations on becoming a home owner! I’ve only ever rented once and even though we didn’t have any problems it did feel a bit weird knowing that our relationship with the place was transient. #WotW
