Cupcakes and chicklit – Little Loves

I missed Little Loves last weekend as we were really busy, and early in the week I felt pretty awful, and so I just didn’t get around to doing a post. This last week has been a bit of a mixed batch – I’ve had some bad migraines and the kids have played up at times this week, but we’ve squeezed in a fair bit of fun too.

I’ve read a couple of really good books over the last few weeks. A Parcel for Anna Browne by Miranda Dickinson was a nice read, with a bit of a mystery storyline, a bit of a love story, and it gets you thinking about self confidence and overcoming problems in your past. Christmas at Lilac Cottage by Holly Martin is another fun one; a very enjoyable read, excellent for curling up with to escape for a few hours, and it had me giggling out loud at time.

The third book I’ve read & loved was The Epic Adventures of Lydia Bennet, which is a sequel of sorts to The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet – companion to the fantastic Lizzie Bennet Diaries web series created by Pemberly Digital. I loved this series when I discovered it, and the books that go with them are really great. This latest installment really resonated with me, as Lydia floundered a little after the events of the series, and tried to find her path.

This week we’ve been watching Doctor Who & Downton Abbey – two of our favourites – and of course, the Great British Bake Off. We are all caught up on everything but Downton, so no spoilers please! We’ve been recording Strictly but haven’t made time to watch them – we will have to try harder!

Seriously though, on the subject of Doctor Who – what is with all the cliffhangers?! I do not approve. I’m going to be fretting all week now.

Wore

This weeks best clothing item was probably a fleece hoody I picked up super cheap in a local charity shop for Lydia. It is super soft, and it is very her – I knew as soon as I saw it on the hanger that she would love it, and I wasn’t wrong. It is an Indigo one, from M&S, and is covered in flowers in fun colours, and has pockets which Lydia loves. She looks super cute in it, and I know it is going to be a firm favourite until she grows out of it.

Heard

I’ve been listening to the audiobook of The Runaway Actress by Victoria Connelly over the last few days; while I’ve been doing housework and on the school run. I love the accent of the narrator, although it did altogether too much of a good job lulling me to sleep last night as I only remember the first few minutes from where I bookmarked.

At swimming on Friday I had the Pitch Pefect soundtracks singing away in my ears using my new waterproof mp3 player (which is awesome – I must do a review post for it as I am loving it) – it was great as the faster tempo songs gave me a beat for a quicker burst of swimming, then I could slow down a bit and rest for the slower songs. I am still shaking off the last of this nasty chesty cold I’ve had so didn’t want to over do it going full pelt – but it was nice to not have to repeatedly stop swimming because of chest pain at least!

The kids gave me a cupcake recipe book for my 30th birthday this summer, and we have been experimenting with some of the different recipes recently.

Lydia asked for chocolate, so we made an incredibly chocolately batch – to be honest it was a bit too much for me, but the kids loved them! I did a double batch and sent some in to James’s work – I may have got a bit silly with the decorations (I blame Georgie’s influence).

and lastly…

Georgie is thriving at her new school, and I have been really pleased with how much she’s been doing. Just this week they were visited by the life bus and learned about their bodies, she had her first forest school session as well as some p.e., and loads more besides. She is definitely getting really stimulated and the environment is suiting her down to the ground – our girl comes home every day tired, happy, full of random songs, stories and titbits – and is really excited to go back for more the next day. Here’s hoping that continues.
