As part of my role as a National Stationery Week blogger I have been sent a variety of items from the Maped Color’Peps range to try out. We’ve been testing their Aqua watercolour pencils, the Jungle Innovation felt pens, their Smoothy chunky watercolour crayons, and their Mini pencil crayons.
The girls have really been enjoying the range; the colours are bright and cover the whole spectrum, and they are all designed to be easy to hold and use, for all ages.
The Smoothy crayons are perfect for two year old Lydia, as they are nicely chunky shaped for her toddler hands, and they write super-smooth on the paper without adding too much pressure; something she struggles with when using wax crayons. You can add water afterwards and use them as watercolours, something she found really fun. Definitely a hit, and the plastic carry case they come inside make them perfect for slipping into a bag to take out with you.
The pencil crayons in this range are great. The slightly rounded triangular shape makes them comfortable to hold in the hand and stops them rolling away, too. The kids have claimed the Mini set for colouring in the house, while I’ve acquired the larger watercolour ones for my own use – colouring in is therapeutic, and also becoming a little bit trendy as a hobby for adults. Georgie has been using the Mini set a lot for drawings and workbooks, and is very pleased.
Our favourite item we have been testing out is without doubt the Jungle Innovation set. 12 felt pens sit on a soft stand that is flipped open to stand on a table, or flipped closed to store in between use. The caps of the pens are securely attached to the base, so that you never lose a felt pen cap! After seeing many felt pens dry up in our house (seriously, how do kids manage to lose so many caps?) this seems like the best invention ever to me. The girls both love taking the pens in and out of their stand, so they always put them back safely after use. The pens themselves are bright, comfortable in the hand, and colour smoothly. Their soft tips resist being banged on the table (“I’m adding spots, Mummy) so you don’t have to watch the nib disappear inside the pen never to be seen again.
We have been impressed with this whole range and the girls have been drawing and colouring more than ever.
