Review: This activity book and playset from Parragon Books is great fun, the girls have been really enjoying playing with the cardboard fire engine & all the little figures, and the activity book is enjoyable too.

When you open up the set, you get four sheets of cardboard with figures & shapes to pop out. The instructions to put your fire station & engine together are in the first pages of the activity book & it is fairly simple to follow for an adult or older child.

Fire Station Playset instructions

You get a great selection of figures and props along with your engine; eight firefighters, a dog, a cat up a tree, three traffic cones, two barriers, a fire hydrant and three little flames. The firefighters are a good mixture of race & gender, and are in a variety of different positions, including two who are shooting water.

Cardboard Fire Engine

Every play piece is double sided rather than printed one side & blank the other, which is a nice aspect of the play set. This includes the fire station, which has equipment hanging on the walls inside. The cardboard is corrugated so it doesn’t fall over too easily, and once the fire station & engine have been put together they are pretty sturdy (although with a two year old bashing it about I did reinforce the odd bit with sellotape).

Fire Station Activity Book

Georgie has claimed the activity book as her own and sat down to have fun with it on her own. She didn’t need help from an adult to work out what to do on each page, and it is a nice size to fit into bags for meals out etc too. The paper is a bit glossy though so not all pens will dry quickly or work too well on it.

The illustrations on both the playset and book are fun and the set ties in nicely with the activity book too, as you can find out what the firefighters and dog are called by reading the book. It is a lovely set for any child of preschool/KS1 age to enjoy & would be a perfect gift for any junior firefighter wannabes!

We give this set 5 stars – it’s a lot of fun and has lasting play value thanks to the good quality of the pieces. Perfect for some imaginative play time.

  1. Great review! We had this too and the activity book is fun, but I agree the fire engine and station was fiddly. I used sellotape to hold it together in the end! #TriedTested
