Rating: (5/5 stars) Review: With Frozen 2 coming out last week, there is definitely a sense of Frozen Fever in the air… and for good reason. The sequel is excellent. We saw it on Saturday and Lydia is super excited that she can dress up as Elsa and make-believe that she has ice powers with these toys. I wouldn’t be surprised if she is staging a full costumed performance of Into the Unknown by the end of the week, she already has most of the lyrics memorised! Included in the Ice Sleeve box you get: the plastic sleeve & a fabric glove (Lydia chose to wear this on the other wrist so she had “one on each wrist”), a water squirter bottle, and a silly string can. It’s simple to set up, as you simply insert either the silly string can or water canister into the underside of the sleeve. The Ice Walker is all one unit, and just requires 3 AAA batteries to be inserted before you can start playing – you will need a cross-head screwdriver to install these. To put on the Ice Sleeve, you lift up the plastic arm clip and slide the sleeve onto your arm, adjusting the elasticated velcro strap to fit, before clipping shut the plastic clip over the top. Your hand goes into the trigger mechanism, and you just have to bend your hand up to spray the “ice” (aka silly string or water). Both the silly string and the water worked really well and Lydia had a great time spraying the airing cupboard door and laundry pile when she was testing it – and then going downstairs to show it off to Georgie and James by spraying them! The silly string is quite a bit messier than the water, and also not refillable – which is a shame in Lydia’s eyes, but perhaps not so much for us parents who have to clear it up. I shouldn’t think it would be too hard to find a can that would fit the sleeve, however. The Ice Walker slips on over your shoe, with an adjustable strap on the bottom and another, thinner, strap that goes around the ankle. This keeps it firmly in place. Whenever Lydia took a step, the Ice Walker projected ice crystals / snowflakes around her foot, so she could pretend to be turning the floor underfoot to ice – just like Elsa does. She loved this and spent ages stamping her foot to trigger it. We were also sent a little Whisper & Glow Kristoff which Lydia adores – you simply blow on his head and he lights up! This little Kristoff is really cute, and the colour of the light changes with each blow. They have a whole range of these characters, and they’d make perfect stocking fillers. I might be sending James over to Smyths one day to pick some up for the girls’ stockings sometime in the next few weeks! Overall Lydia has been delighted with these toys and they will definitely be given pride of place in her dressing up collection! She loves playing pretend and dressing up randomly as princesses at the weekends, so I can see these getting a LOT of use.
