Review: When we were offered LEGO Movie 2 themed LEGO sets to review the girls just about exploded with excitement! We are a pretty LEGO obsessed family and I don’t think more than a day or two go by without some building happening in our house.

The LEGO Movie 2 comes out February 8th, and the girls are really looking forward to a family outing to the cinema to see it. We’ll be heading to our local LEGOLAND Discovery Centre here in Birmingham too, to check out the LEGO Movie 2 event they have going on, which starts on February 9th. I dare say the girls will be tempted to spend some of their money on a set or two from this range after this review as they’ve enjoyed these sets so much!

We were sent three different sets from the range, featuring Emmet and Lucy (aka Wyldstyle) who the girls are already familiar with from the first movie, plus a new character Rex Dangervest who we are all very intrigued by! Two of the sets include aliens from DUPLO planet, which Lydia in particular was very excited about, with spinning eyes and chomping mouths.

The first set the girls built was Emmet’s Thricycle, which is a fantastical looking vehicle with three wheels stacked vertically, with Emmet perched on top somewhat precariously. The alien is bright orange and red, and you can park the Thricycle in the little filling station to service it and refill the tank. Included in the 7+ set is a “new-for-January-2019” Emmet minifigure and his best friend Planty.

I got to build the Rex-treme Offroader which was great fun. Rex is a Raptor trainer and we got our first LEGO dinosaur with this set which Georgie and Lydia were super happy about. This set is a 3 in 1 set for ages 7+ which can make two smaller sets with the same pieces in addition to the main offroader vehicle & Rex-o-saurus with his back mounted guns.

The two smaller sets you can build with this set are the Rex-o-saurus Quad and the Execu-Rex-o-saurus, which are both great little builds. I particularly liked the dino build which used parts of the dino but replaces the front legs with LEGO built arms so he can hold a briefcase and mug. Included in this set are two minifigures, Emmet and Rex, and a brightly coloured Plantimal creature.

Our third set was the one Georgie and Lydia were most excited by; the Ultrakatty set! Angry Kitty seems to have undergone quite a transformation in this set so I’m really intrigued to see the movie and find out what happens and why Lucy is riding into battle against DUPLO aliens!

This 8+ set comes with “new-for-January-2019” Lucy and Emmet minifigures, complete with Lucy’s crossbow and STOP sign, as well as another DUPLO alien with a moveable eye and chomping mouth. Ultrakatty has three different faces so that you can change her facial expressions by swapping around the bricks.

The Ultrakatty set can be combined with set “70829 Emmet and Lucy’s Escape Buggy” to create the Ultra Escape Buggy which looks really cool.

We are really pleased with these sets – they are as weird and wonderful as the first LEGO Movie so I’m betting the second movie is just as barmy and fantastic as the first. We had great fun building and playing with these sets, and I’m sure the girls will have some great imaginative play once they have seen the film and understand the new characters and storyline a bit more.

We give these sets 5 stars! Happy building 😀
