Splosh Starter Kit

Review: Where I can, I try to be an environmentally conscious person. Unfortunately, this can often be expensive – so expensive that we can’t afford the better options of things. Up until I discovered Splosh.com, this was definitely the case with Eco friendly cleaning products.

You must know what I mean; you see these wonderful “green” brands in the supermarket, with wonderful promises of being better for the environment than the big name alternatives. The bottles are half the size and three times the cost, though. With two young children in the house, we do a lot of laundry, clean a lot of spills, and wash up a lot of dishes. We just can’t afford to buy these environmentally friendly options on a regular basis.

This is where Splosh comes in. They had one of those beautiful, simple, amazing ideas.

Instead of buying countless plastic bottles full of cleaning products, why not just have one bottle for each job, and refill it?

Instead of buying cleaning fluids which are mostly water, why not just buy them in concentrated form & add the water yourself?

So, that’s what they did. Instead of buying your cleaning products at the shop, you go online and order yourself a starter pack of two or four bottles. These come with sachets of concentrated cleaning products already inside to begin with.

To turn your sachets of concentrated cleaner into usable products, you simply add hot water from the tap and allow them to dissolve. The outer layer is actually part of the cleaner, so there is no waste and nothing to rip open or try toour into the necks of bottles.

When you are running low, you simply go online to the website and order replacement sachets for your bottles. These are sent out in recyclable trays, which are letterbox friendly so you don’t have to worry about missing the postman. No supermarkets, minimum waste, easy!

Cutting out the middle man and all that waste lowers the cost and means both your house and your conscience can be clean at the same time!

As for the products themselves? We were sent the following items, and are really pleased with each one:

  • Liquid laundry detergent – Cotton flower
  • Hand wash gel – Rose & Lotus Blossom
  • Kitchen cleaner – Pomegranate & Melon
  • Washing up liquid – Grapefruit

The laundry detergent has done a great job handling the dirty, paint splattered, food covered wash loads that accompany family life, and our clothes have emerged from the machine smelling fresh & looking clean. Whites have stayed white, on the whole – James may have made a slight mistake throwing a pair of brand new navy jeggings in the machine with a handful of white baby vests… Oops! We haven’t used it any faster than our regular washing liquid.

The hand wash gel smells fantastic, gets your hands squeaky clean & lathers up nicely. I think the bottle is really attractive and the dispenser works nicely.

As for the kitchen cleaner, it smells great and does a great job of cleaning away the grime and mess in the kitchen. We have noticed that the smell lingers – in a good way – easily removing strong food smells and that dreaded spilt milk gone slightly off stench.

I have mixed feelings about washing up liquid; my skin reacts fairly badly to most brands and so James does the majority of the washing up in our house! I have done some with this product and my skin didn’t dry out too badly, certainly not as bad as with the other brands we have used in the past. A little bit goes a long way, and you get plenty of bubbles! Glasses I washed dried sparkly and streak free, and plates and cutlery are shiny clean.

The whole process of making up the cleaning products is quite fun really – fascinating to watch as the sachets dissolve! The bottles are really attractive and look great on the side of your sink, with the rich colours of the cleaning products inside, and clean design on the packaging.

I have already ordered another four bottle starter pack, and some refills for our first pack will be winging their way to our door soon too. The ordering process is ridiculously easy, and the website remembers what sorts of bottles you have ordered in the past, so you can order refills to suit.

We give Splosh cleaning products 5 stars.
