9 Months

Home Chit Chat 9 Months

Today is Georgie’s 9 month birthday – she is three-quarters old! I can’t believe that it is already 2012, and that my little baby girl turns one this year!

Playing before breakfast this morning

The past 9 months have flown by ridiculously fast, and Georgie’s ninth month has been incredible in terms of her development. January has seen her go from wriggling & rolling caterpillar style on the floor to being able to cross a room in traditional crawl mode in no time at all! She has gained loads of confidence with her crawling in just a few weeks, and loves to pull herself up on everything and walk along the edge. She has even cracked crawling on our wooden floors this week, and has been happily exploring the ground floor of the house this afternoon, showing off her newfound sense of independence.

Of course, all of this new mobility comes with its own set of risks, and Georgie is having her fair share of falls and bumps. She has been displaying a variety of red marks over the last few weeks after bashing her head against various things, and we had our first blood today which was a bit scary! She was standing up against her walker and took a tumble down onto the rug – she must have had her tongue sticking out (as she loves to do) and clamped her sharp teeth down onto it as she fell. Cue blood pouring out of her mouth and spreading all over her chin & onto her romper suit. To my panicked-mummy eyes she was covered in the stuff! Rapid application of baby wipes managed to clean up most of the blood before it got everywhere, and a few minutes cuddling with mummy put a stop to her tears, so no harm done.

Afternoon nap - with her first blood stain!

We are doing our best to avoid Georgie becoming a cry baby; most tumbles are ignored by all parties instead of fussed over – when she looks to us for reassurance after having a little bump we give her a grin instead of a worried face and all is forgotten in seconds. More serious boo-boos require a cuddle, and it melts my heart a little every time she bumps herself then starts simultaneously whining and crawling straight to me to be lifted up for a quick cuddle – only to be wriggling to be let down to play a few minutes later! I hope she never stops coming to her mummy when she needs comfort, no matter how old she is 🙂
