Last weekend we headed to one of our local green spaces (Birmingham is full of them), that runs alongside the Worcester and Birmingham Canal, and spent a couple of hours at the first annual Kings Norton Canal Festival. The (true) saying goes that Birmingham has more miles of canal than Venice… of course, Birmingham also has a higher population and covers a much larger area!
The girls loved looking at all the different stalls and trying different things out while we were there. The National Trust had a barefoot walk laid out which Lydia tried out, and the girls made wooden necklaces with the Lickey Hills Rangers. Fish caught in the canal that morning were peered at and admired, and the girls enjoyed trying their hand at some netball training.
Our local Dominos franchise has just opened up a new takeaway locally and they were there too, promoting that and their new partnership with the Teenage Cancer Trust. They were selling personal sized pizzas for £1 each so you can guess what we had for lunch!
I did a little shopping at the craft stalls, eyed up a stack of beautiful jigsaws longingly, and then we headed down to the Canal to look at the different barges moored up. It was really interesting with all sorts of different crafts people who clearly live in their barges and travel to events like this one to sell their wares. I thought the “Jam Butty” was particularly fun.
It was a lovely day out and they were lucky with the weather, as the sun shone down all day and there was a steady stream of people there to enjoy the festival. We skipped the bouncy castles due to long wait times, but Lydia and Georgie did get to clamber around and inspect a fire engine, so they went home happy!
This sounds like so much fun! I love canals. It’s on my bucket list to one day travel along one. This sounds like such a great day out! I love the little jam boat! 😀 xx

That boat store is just the coolest ever! I wish I can do that and sell shoes! I dont know why I chose shoes haha. This trip is mist fun! #countrykids
