Rating: (5/5 stars) Review: Wicked Uncle sent the girls a Sky Viper Force Drone to review and it has been an absolute smash hit! This little hand controlled drone is easy to play with and zips around the room without damaging anything or colliding with people, thanks to the built in sensors. Inside the box is just the drone, charging cable, and a sheet of instructions that basically say wave your hand at the drone to move it around, and swipe it over the drone to make it flip. The Force Drone charges via the included micro usb cable, which has an indicator light on the usb plug to indicate when it is charging. An LED on the drone itself shows when it is turned on, and flashes when the battery is running low. To fly this drone you simply toss it up into the air – either by resting it flat on your hand and doing a quick up-down motion, or by holding it down at a 90 degree angle and flicking it up into the air. The drone quickly launches and then zips around, moving away from anything it detects using the sensors set around the circumference of the drone casing – including you & your hands. It has a fun little flipping trick where if you swipe your hand across the top of the drone and then downwards to the side, it will zoom upwards and flip over. This always amuses the girls when we manage to get it right! To turn it off, you simply reach out quickly to catch it, and flip it upside down. This stops the rotors turning, until you toss it back up and they automatically turn back on. The battery life is the most negative aspect of this little drone – though understandable as it is small & light, and a larger battery would add too much weight. It only lasts for around 6 or 7 minutes before needing to recharge, although it doesn’t take long at all before you can get it back up into the air. It seems fairly sturdy – the sensors keep it away from most obstacles and the outer cage protects both the drone from the environment and whatever it touches from the spinning rotor blades. It does usually crash land after slowly flying lower & lower and need tossing back up into the air, but it hasn’t shown any damage for it’s penchant to keep trying to ‘land’ in the living room bin. It is a little bit pricey at £34.99 but would make a great Christmas gift for any tech loving kid. I would have knocked off a star for this, but the girls both insist it is a five star toy! Lydia says: I think the drone is very very very very fun to play with and it’s so cool how you can control it just by using your hand. I like how the charger lights up to let you know that it’s charging. I love how it does a trick if you swipe your hand over it and how it you just throw it into the air and it starts flying.
