Rating: (5/5 stars) Review: Astro Bot, the cute little guy that has become the unofficial PlayStation mascot, quite literally stole the show in 2024 by winning Game of the Year for his first full length game. When we first got our PS5 in 2020, I was thrilled to discover the free Astro’s Playroom game that comes preinstalled. It’s essentially a free tech demo showcasing the PS5, particularly the DualSense controller. For a free game, it was incredibly impressive. It featured four different worlds to explore, collectibles to hunt down, and I spent three days diligently playing through it, determined to complete everything and earn that coveted platinum trophy. The star of the show was Astro Bot, a tiny and adorable robot that resides within your PlayStation. It turns out I wasn’t the only one who adored this small game and longed for more. Last year, in celebration of PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, the full-length Astro Bot game was released and ended up being the highest-rated game of 2024. The 3D platformer featuring the expressive little robot makes great use of the DualSense controller, making it feel wonderfully interactive. It’s a brilliantly fun game that I had a whale of a time playing. With the new Astro Bot Cable Guy from EXG Pro, you can now get your very own Astro Bot to look after your controller. This adorable bot is designed to look just like it does in the games, with a cute little expression on its face & every detail seeming perfect. The Astro Bot Cable Guy can hold either your controller, smartphone, or even a remote control. It’s neatly designed to allow cables to plug in to the top or bottom of any controller it holds, so you can charge them while he looks after them. I think he looks great holding onto our DualSense controller for us, as well as James’s iPhone (he has an iPhone 14 Pro, which is a pretty average-sized modern smartphone). He’s both fun and functional! This piece is quite sturdy, so it won’t easily fall over. At about 22cm tall, it’s a nice size of gaming memorabilia to display on your desk, media unit, or anywhere you fancy. It also doesn’t look at all daft when his arms are empty, so you can also choose to display him just as part of your gaming collection without necessarily giving him something to hold – Astro will just look like he is having a nice sit down! At £29.99, I think this Astro Bot is fairly well-priced. It’s a decent-sized, well-made figure that’s officially licensed. We definitely give 5 stars for this adorable – and useful – model. You can also find it cheaper at Smyths Toys – and it will likely appear on the Amazon Cable Guys store for around the same price soon.
