Another weekend, another wedding!

Home Chit Chat Another weekend, another wedding!

Everyone loves a spring wedding, and we were lucky enough to go to two weddings last month. I blogged about Sophie’s wedding a few weeks ago, and on Friday we headed up to Stafford to watch Detta & Ian get hitched.

It was a really beautiful day, and they were really lucky with the weather – it was warm and the sun shone all day. I even caught the sun a little while we were outside having photos done! Georgie really enjoyed running around in the sunshine and was a little social butterfly all day, once she was over her initial shyness.

The ceremony took place in a catholic church, and it was a really nice service. I must admit to being slightly distracted by cuddling/feeding Lydia as required, and helping to control my other little darling. Georgie chattered away throughout the service, much to the amusement of the other guests, and was clambering over the backs of pews to our various friends like a little monkey.

At one point Georgiana saw an imaginary cat and got very excited, yelling CAT repeatedly, much to my embarrassment. I think my favourite moment may have been when she rather irreverently announced that the statue of baby Jesus was a “Loddy” – dolly is the only word where she rather adorably mixes up the letters and she was convinced that the Virgin Mary was holding one! Thankfully, I had been pre-forgiven for any of Georgie’s transgressions or interruptions by the bride 🙂

Lydia was fairly well-behaved in church, although she was fussy and cried when I tried to feed her at one point – I’ve been suffering a bit from mastitis over the last week or so and she hasn’t been keen on feeding from the affected side so it took a bit of convincing to get her latched on… it’s acceptable that we disrupted half a hymn with our crying baby, right?

Detta looked absolutely gorgeous, the bridesmaids were beautiful… and the men were very smart too! The whole wedding was full of fun details which reflected Detta & Ian’s personality amazingly. The cake was amazing, consisting of giant lego bricks complete with lego bride & groom.

Georgie wore a red dress we picked up from Mothercare in the after Christmas sales, with smart black Clarks flashy Ella shoes I got second-hand on eBay, with a black satin flower headband and black necklace and bracelet set – both cheap bits of fun from eBay for her. We also picked up a rose patterned cream hoodie and swish cream socks from Tesco to finish off the outfit. Lydia was in a green corduroy dress we bought from the Next clearance shop in Birmingham a few months ago. Amazingly, both girls outfits survived the entire day, although there was a splodge of ketchup on the hoodie by the end of the night!

Lydia & Georgie were the only kids at the wedding, though that didn’t stop Georgie from making friends. She was all over the place, dancing with people, getting my friends to cuddle her, play with her, and carry her about… she even spent a good 10 minutes sitting at another table with some people I’ve never met before, just chilling out on a chair and watching the dancing. There were some inflatable guitars and microphones for photo props, and Georgie kept “borrowing” them. She was quite attached to a yellow guitar for a while and I thought we’d end up taking it home, but thankfully we were able to convince her to let the other guests have a turn 🙂

Detta & Ian arranged for a personalised activity box for Georgie, complete with a sweet wedding themed activity book, crayons & sweeties. She was VERY pleased with this and it was brilliant for helping to keep her amused during the meal and speeches. It was from Sticky Fingers Party Shop and I would definitely recommend them to anyone planning a wedding with young guests! We always take entertainment when out and about with Georgie, especially to something like a wedding, but something new like this always trumps our little stash!

We lasted until 10:45pm when we decided to take our very tired children home. Minutes after getting in the car they were both fast asleep, and as soon as we got into our room at the travelodge Georgie was just saying “bed bed bed” impatiently while James topped up the air in her readybed, and I changed her into her PJs. Needless to say, she was fast asleep practically as soon as her head hit the pillow.

It was a fabulous day! I love taking the girls to weddings, and I am firmly in the camp of kids belonging at weddings! They are all about family after all 🙂
