Yesterday morning, Lydia was grumpy. Seriously grumpy. If a child ever woke up on the wrong side of bed, it was Lydia yesterday morning. She usually comes with me to drop Georgie off at school, but she was too busy having a tantrum about who put her socks on to come along. The whole morning pretty much continued like that – her favourite pixar films on the tv and lots of cuddles for my unhappy little girl.
I tweeted out a picture of her using instagram – she smiled for the camera, but she wasn’t really happy. Lydia told me she was tired, and grumpy.
This is what happened next:
The reactions online were brilliant – to our delivery and to the many others they made in Birmingham yesterday.
I think it is a superb social media campaign – they are bringing a smile to people’s faces, and putting thoughtfulness and care into their deliveries. Lydia was so ecstatic and took her new “Lady doggie” on the school run, and up to bed to cuddle all night. She was delighted to get her very own parcel, and we spent a happy hour doing her new Sarah & Duck magazine while watching Cinderella, and she munched away on a snack bar. A huge success and my grumpy two year old problem was absolutely fixed.
Just search for the #directfix hashtag on twitter and you will see a whole load of happy faces and fun parcels. What a great idea from Direct Line – this is one that had me talking at the school gate and certainly turned Lydia’s smile upside down.

What a lovely, lovely campaign – purely to make people smile! So nice of them! x
