I started my Breastfeeding Buddies training last week at my local children’s centre, and one of our activities for the first week was to make our very own boob, to be used for demonstrating expressing & latching techniques, etc.
It was quite an amusing task; there may have been some muttered curses as we stabbed ourselves with our needles, snapped our threads in the final seconds of creation, and sent grains of rice skidding across the table.
My breast turned out a little sad-looking – even after I topped it up with some extra rice at home. However, they did furnish us with a knitting pattern so I made an impassioned plea via the phone to my mother after I got home and, lo & behold, a package arrived yesterday which caused my husband to yell “your boob is here” at full volume up the stairs… Goodness knows what the neighbours will think!
The knitting pattern they gave us is from the Lactation Consultants of Great Britain and results in a fab boob. They also have a crochet pattern on their site, if you prefer. It will be very useful for my training and then my volunteer work helping the local ladies with their breastfeeding dilemmas!
Just one more thing to add to the seemingly endless list of “things that live in the changing bag”, I guess… In emergencies it could always double up as a soft toy to amuse Georgie with!
