Breastfeeding: The importance of a full feed

Since I started my training as a breastfeeding buddy, I have heard the same complaint over and over from other peer supporters and mums – that parents are consistently getting incorrect or bad advice from midwives, health visitors and doctors. I think that this is something that puts a lot of parents off breastfeeding in …

Breastfeeding Support – Why it’s important and where to find it!

One of the most important things you will need to succeed with breastfeeding is great support. And I’m not just talking about making sure you have a great nursing bra, though that’s important too! The help, advice & encouragement you do or do not receive can have a huge impact on how well you breastfeed …

Fancy a nibble of my boobs?

Today was the final day of my Breastfeeding Buddy training course, and I had to have my practical assessment to check that I know my stuff before I got my certificate and the all important pink t-shirt – my new buddy “uniform”!

My t-shirt & certificate - I must have retained some information after all, despite the permanent baby brain!

Rather embarrassingly, we also had our photograph taken as a group for a press release! Hopefully we will be featured in the local news soon to promote the service we have been trained to provide. I will try to remember to post it here if we’re on any of the local news sites :-).

DIY Breasticles

I started my Breastfeeding Buddies training last week at my local children’s centre, and one of our activities for the first week was to make our very own boob, to be used for demonstrating expressing & latching techniques, etc. It was quite an amusing task; there may have been some muttered curses as we stabbed …

Baby Clinic

Georgie & I headed to the surgery this morning to get her last round of jabs and for baby clinic. The jabs went fine – she didn’t even cry until the second stab, and was ok again by the time her plasters were on, bless her. The health visitor weighed and measured her – at 20 weeks, she is now 5.98 kg (13lb 3oz) and 64.5 cm long!

Also, Moira (my health visitor) spoke to me again about becoming a breastfeeding buddy and I’m going to go on a course next time they come around. So, I will be getting involved in helping other mums in the area with their breastfeeding problems – exciting stuff!
