There’s no denying that a lot of the stuff you find on eBay is over priced or frankly not in good enough condition to bother buying, but sometimes you can bag a real bargain!
This week James & I are delighted after bagging a lovely big wooden play table with storage drawers for a mere tenner. Not only is the table in decent condition and of great quality, it came with the drawers stuffed with track! We are planning on starting Georgie off with a wooden railway collection at Christmas and so the big pile of wooden track is being put away until then. I will sell the plastic Thomas track on eBay, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I manage to make back the cost of the table, we got such a good deal.
The trick to bagging a great deal on eBay is to read listings carefully – in this case the owners didn’t photograph all of the track so it wasn’t obvious at a glance that you got loads with it. I’m sure that if the sellers had listed the track as separate bundles they could have made three or four times as much. I got a gorgeous Radley purse this way too – the photo was badly taken but I read the listing, which promised a good condition, and looked up the design to make sure that it was one of the ones I liked.
Our new play table is perfect for the living room which doubles up as Georgie’s playroom, as we will be able to keep toys in, underneath & on it! She has already started driving her toy car around on the surface, as it’s such a great height for her.
Another great eBay tip is to make a mental wishlist in advance of special events like Christmas, birthdays, or a new arrival to the family, and do regular searches to see if you can spot a bargain. Keeping an eye on the local listings this way, using advanced search, is a great way to avoid postage charges and often means you can get a really great deal.
Selling on eBay is a whole other story though, and to be honest I haven’t bothered with it much lately thanks to the horrendous fees. Tech items sell just as well on Gumtree with no fees, and I’m thinking of stockpiling baby & toddler items then going down a second hand sale route sometime, or getting a table at a local car boot!
