When I was 16, I met a girl called Becky. When I was 23, Becky was one of my bridesmaids. In the intervening years, and ever since, although we lived in opposite ends of the country, we kept in touch, chatted online, sent birthday cards & told each other about our lives. Becky is one of those brilliant friends who can be contacted after a few months of crazy busy life getting in the way, and everything just picks up as it has been, with no recriminations about lack of contact.
At university, Becky met a girl called Lottie who became one of her best friends. Naturally, we chatted about our friends to each other, so I knew when Lottie had her first baby, Findlay, and that things were complicated, and a few years later I heard the news of a second baby, Iona. Since Iona’s birth we’ve become friends online and exchange comments on photos, etc, as you do.
Findlay and Iona both have a very rare chromosome abnormality called Trisomy 12q. This condition means that they have a very high level of care needs and a lot of specialist equipment is needed for them to lead happy and comfortable lives – even simple things like bathing or going to the park require special equipment.
The NHS only funds a small amount of the equipment & adaptations that Findlay & Iona need to do the most basic of things, and so “Fundraising for Findlay” was set up to try and raise money to fund the things they need to make their life more accessible.
Mummy vs Work has chosen Fundraising for Findlay to be her Charity of the Year 2013 and is currently holding an online auction to raise money. Please head over to ebay to check out the items up for grabs!
