Georgie’s last day of pre-school

The summer holiday has officially started! Last Thursday, Georgie, Lydia, and I, all went to Georgie’s pre-school for her end of term Summer party and folder presentation. The kids got to watch a funny children’s entertainer, ate party food, and generally ran around having a great time.

The folder presentation was nice – if a little chaotic! They do this every term, calling the children up in turn to collect a large folder full of the work they have created that term, to take home. As Georgie is moving onto primary school in September (sob!), hers also included all of her no-longer-required name slips and a bookstart pack with some lovely picture books in. She was very proud to go up and get it, but pulled a ridiculous face when posing with it and her teachers.

I am glad they do this simple presentation at the end of the school year, as they do at the end of each term, and not a full blown “graduation ceremony” complete with tiny robe, cap and scroll… I’m sorry, but I think they are a bit ridiculous and unnecessary. I’m not denying that kids dressed up like uni graduates is cute, because it is, but they do make me cringe too.

Georgie has absolutely thrived at her pre-school, and the relaxed social environment has been perfect for her – she really loved going every day, and hated school holidays when she couldn’t go. After moving around a lot for her first 4 years of life, she now has a best friend who she and Lydia both adore, and I came home from the party with a couple of Mum’s phone numbers to arrange play dates over the holidays, too. She is more than ready to move onto the next step and attend reception, but I know she will miss pre-school, especially over the summer break.

Starting in September, Lydia will be going to the pre-school Georgie has just left for three mornings a week, and Georgie goes straight into full days at her primary school. Three whole mornings to myself! I might even manage to get some work done in daylight, fancy that.
