Getting settled in

We moved in two and a half weeks ago, and we are definitely starting to feel at home in our new house. Georgie keeps telling everyone “I like my new house!” so I’m taking that as a good sign that she likes it here too.

We went to a local playgroup for the first time this week and both the girls had a great time; there was a great variety of toys to play with and plenty to do. The people running the group were friendly and welcoming, and the children all played (fairly!) nicely too, bonus.

The playgroup is run in a local church hall which is down by the local shops, so we walked back via a few charity shops, and the co-op. Georgie got a new “big girl cup” and some books out of it, so I can see that route back to check for bargains becoming a regular one! The local park that I blogged about visiting the other day is on the way home too, so we stopped for a quick swing & slide.

We had a slight disaster at the weekend when the bath started leaking, but my superstar husband has replaced the drain and fixed the leak, so we can shower and bathe again, hurrah. Good thing too – I grabbed a shower and washed my hair at my Mother-in-Law’s on Sunday but I was starting to feel quite yucky!

At the weekend we picked up our dishwasher – one that used to belong to James’s grandparents but is no longer needed after their move, and James plumbed that in last night. He is definitely getting into the swing of all the DIY that needs to be done… we seem to own half of screwfix now though.

Friday is going to be a big day, with the electrician coming to replace our ancient fuseboard with a modern trip board with RCD, and also to wire our lovely new cooker in. I am looking forward to having a working oven, especially such a nice big one! We have a furniture set being delivered for the spare room too, so we’ll be having fun putting flatpack furniture together at the weekend.

The mower we borrowed from James’s Mum about 6 years ago finally gave up the ghost, so that was another unexpected cost we’ve had to bear this week – we’ve bought a replacement Flymo as I am hoping to do most of the mowing myself and I hate heavy mowers. This evening we’ve won an eBay auction for four pine chairs we love the look of, which should go perfectly with the table we got second hand. I’m looking forward to seeing them in place with the table!

I’ve been putting up canvases and pictures steadily, and my office space is almost completed too, so I’m really excited about that. I am going to share lots of photos of it when I’m done, as I’ve put a lot of thought into creating myself a little space all of my own to work and blog.

James and I are both in agreement that, with all the plans we are able to make and the sense of ownership we have, this house definitely already feels more like “our home” than anywhere else we have lived. It may have a long way to go before the decor is ok, but we are a little bit in love with it right now.

I thought that, with the girls sleeping badly and everyone being a bit under the weather, we hadn’t done too much since my last update about things on Friday, but it turns out we’ve done quite a lot. I’ve been too shattered to blog much though, although I am getting caught up on my emails so that’s good! I seem to have spent a lot of my usual “blog time” with a slightly poorly Georgie though, who has been very clingy and hard to get to settle in her own bed this week.
