Home›Chit Chat› It’s been a long week – Little Loves
I’m finishing the week in a bit of a mixed mood. I’ve caught a cold from Georgie and although her worst symptom seems to be a runny nose, I am losing my voice and feel like I’ve swallowed a couple of rusty razor blades. However, I’ve got some work done this week, the state of the house has been steadily improving, the kids are settled and happy at their schools, and we even got a surprise (to the kids) visit from my parents yesterday afternoon – Georgie was stunned into silence to have her beloved Grandparents pick her up from school with me!
Read
I read a few old favourites this week, but I did read something new – a short story by Trisha Ashley called “A Vintage Christmas”. It’s a 99p bit of happy Christmas wedding related fluff, followed by a teaser for Trisha’s next novel – which is of course already pre-ordered. I’ve got all of Trisha’s books on my kindle, and definitely recommend them.
Watched
This afternoon we all curled up on the sofa together and watched The Lego Movie, which James and I actually managed to see in the cinema when it came out (we loved it). The kids were watching it for the first time and really enjoyed it – Lydia liked it so much that she immediately asked to watch it again straight away afterwards (sorry Lydia, but no).

I’ve been continuing to enjoy Switched at Birth, although I’m coming to the end of what’s available on Now TV now, boo. James is working his way through, and loving, Arrow – which I have been telling him to watch for YEARS. It hasn’t taken him long to figure out that I’ve been right all this time.
Wore
The weather is cooling down and Lydia has been sporting some lovely knitwear this week as a result! One particular cardigan is a hand-me-down from her big sister, who got it second hand to begin with. On Georgie it always looked ridiculous as she was so skinny, but Lydia looks adorable in it, and is really pleased with it. I think she looks super cute!
Heard
I’ve been listening to Peter Hollen’s album as I walk to pick Lydia up from preschool this week. Peter Hollens is an a cappella singer who creates beautiful music videos over on YouTube, with all sounds made by his voice. His original song Ashland’s Song, written for his baby boy, never fails to make me feel a bit emotional. Peter has a great voice and his music, which is mainly made up of a cappella covers, is really great.
Made
Georgie and I made Olaf cookies after school earlier this week. They tasted pretty good and looked fab! Georgie had a great time counting out ingredients, mixing them, cutting out the shapes and decorating them. And, obviously, eating them too. Yum.
and lastly…
Lydia had an eye appointment this week. It went really well, they don’t seem worried about her wandering eye and are very pleased with her eye test results. She hasn’t got perfect vision, but it’s the right way to not be making her eye worse, if that makes sense! The problem is so small they are advising to not use glasses at this point, and will just monitor her vision a few times a year for now, and keep an eye on her divergent squint.
Chilling out in the waiting room between tests while her eyes dilate!
She was so well behaved during the boring and sometimes unpleasant appointment, and didn’t even cry when the nasty stinging drops were put into her eyes. At one point near the end of all the tests and bright lights being shone into her eyes she solemnly informed the doctor “Im grumpy” but that’s about as bad as it got.
While we were in town we did some owl spotting too, which cheered Lydia up a lot after her appointment. We found 13 owls that we hadn’t got before, and Lydia is now the proud owner of an owl keyring for her bag zipper.

My girls had that cardigan too! One of the bonuses to have kids of the same gender is getting to pass along the clothes. Those Olaf cookies look fab, will have to get a box to make with E. Hope you’re having a good week xx
