We were invited to go along to the Jurassic Kingdom event at The Birmingham Botanical Gardens, and the girls were excited to go and see all of the dinosaurs on display!
We headed over after school on Tuesday and enjoyed a very sunny & very warm wander around the gardens, looking at the different dinosaurs and watching them roar and come to life. The event is organised by Weli Creative, who also put on the hugely successful Magical Lantern Festival over the festive period.
There are lots of different dinosaurs on show at the gardens, and it took us over an hour to walk around and see them all… with a stop off at the play area, of course. The gardens now have a couple of wonderful children’s play areas with things for all ages to enjoy. We had to drag them away to get out of the gardens before closing time!
You can learn all about the different dinosaurs as you walk around, with information boards about the different species, and there are educational sheets & pencils to be picked up at the entrance to do as you go around too.
As you walk around there are a few places to grab snacks or drinks; we treated ourselves to some churros which the girls enjoyed, especially the chocolate sauce. I definitely regretted not putting a packet of wet wipes in my bag when I was switching handbags before we went.
Of course, as well as the dinosaurs, we enjoyed the gardens as they are bursting with life and blooms this time of year. The flowers were plentiful and beautiful, and the bees were buzzing around happily. We always seem to have funny encounters with the peacocks, too – and this visit was no different, as the male peacock was busy watching himself in a shiny bin, and jabbing at his reflection.
With over 30 animated dinosaurs dotted around the park, there is certainly enough dinosaurs to satisfy the appetite of even the biggest dino fan. Jurassic Kingdom is on from 20th May to 4th June at the Botanical Gardens, so it makes a perfect half term outing.
