Lydia is six months old today… I know it’s a cliché and I do seem to say it a lot, but the time has absolutely flown by since my baby girl was born.
It seems to soon for her to be weaning, but Lydia has been enjoying her first few tastes, and is absolutely adoring it. We are mostly doing baby led weaning, but also giving her baby porridge in the mornings. Lunchtime and dinnertime – whatever she is awake for – she is given bits of whatever we are eating on her tray, for her to dig into. She’s really fab with a sippy cup already, and pretty good at throwing handfuls of food into her mouth too.
Lydia is also still breastfed on demand, although as she eats more solids her feeds are definitely getting shorter. She’s starting to get more easily distracted during feeds though, and will turn her head away to see someone if they are talking, or if she hears an interesting noise. We’ve been experimenting with expressed milk in sippy cups this week, which she’s taken to really well, and she and I are having our first evening apart on Thursday as my parents are babysitting!
Our little Lydiebum is one of the happiest babies ever; she’s so smiley all the time, and just gives you the biggest grins whenever you smile at her. Georgie always gets big grins too, which is really sweet. I love her little gummy smiles. Although she has started to teethe a bit, with a dribbly chin, her fingers in her mouth constantly, and the occasional calpol requiring grumpiness, she is still a very happy baby, full of smiles for everyone.
Lydia is a massive Daddy’s girl, which is beautiful to watch. James is so great with the kids, and Georgie has always been a Mummy’s girl, so now we have one each! Every time James gets home from work Lydia just turns her head and gives him the biggest smile, before reaching out her arms and claiming her Daddy cuddle. Dinnertime has been known to be delayed because Daddy is distracted cuddling and playing with his baby girl, and loses track of the time.
Our baby girl has changed so much in the first six months, and I know that she will soon be crawling, and then soon after that will be up on her feet and away! She can already roll both ways, and manages to wriggle all around the floor remarkably fast.
The last six months may have been busy, stressful, and quite disorganised at times… but I have loved all my time with my two little girls, and am looking forward to many more months ahead!
