Since Saturday afternoon, Georgie has been walking into the living room and coming to an abrupt standstill, complete with pointing finger and “Oooooh!” noises. This morning she even paused during breakfast this morning to exclaim some more. The reason for this excitement? We put up our Christmas tree and decorations, of course!

Have you decorated for Christmas yet? Traditionally my family have always waited until Christmas Eve to decorate, leaving them up until the 12 days of Christmas are over. I have always loved this as it makes Christmas Day feel incredibly magical and ultra-Christmassy.
Since James and I got together, however, we have had to reach a delicate compromise where decorating for Christmas is concerned! As his birthday falls on the 27th he thinks that leaving it so late to put up the decorations means it is all still too fresh on his birthday and it gets overshadowed by the new-ness of it all. I understand his point of view, and so we wait until the weekend after our wedding anniversary on the 12th to put up the decorations instead. We did break this rule slightly when James and Georgie came home from Asda the other day with a tree of her very own, mind you!

When I was tiny, my parents would put up all the decorations when we went to bed, so that when we woke up on Christmas morning the house had been transformed into this Christmas winter wonderland! I remember how magical this used to feel and so, even though the decorations have gone up earlier than when I was small, we still managed to make some magic for Georgie and get it all done in the afternoon while she was napping!
Ever since, we have been rewarded with the “Oooooh!”, the wide wondering eyes, and the pointing finger. That afternoon of frantic activity on Saturday while she lay sleeping? Totally worth it.
