Rating: (4/5 stars) Review: Igloo Books were kind enough to send over their new range of Disney Cosy Colouring Books, which are ideal for Disney fans of all ages looking for a relaxing colouring experience. Cute and cosy colouring books are really on trend right now, and social media is full of adults creating amazing and creative pages – especially with alcohol markers. Big, bold, and adorable designs like these are perfect if you want something simple and enjoyable for some chilled-out colouring time. These Disney-themed books are all a good size, featuring 25 × 25 cm square pages. Each right-hand page contains a full illustration, while the reverse left-hand pages display fun, bold patterns. However, not every pattern page is unique, as each book uses a small selection of repeating designs. With five books in the range, there’s something for every type of Disney fan. Each title features a variety of Disney and Pixar characters to suit its theme – although, as expected, the Stitch edition is dedicated entirely to Stitch and friends. The illustrations are nicely done, with instantly recognisable characters from the Disney movies set in simple yet pleasing locations. The bold linework makes it easy to colour neatly without needing intense concentration, and the simplified designs leave plenty of room to add your own detail or shading if you want to get creative. I did have a few small niggles with the artwork. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of the eye style they’ve chosen, as there are no irises to colour. It works well enough for animal characters, but I find it less appealing on human ones. I also noticed that when characters have dark hair, it’s printed as solid black rather than left open for colouring in the correct shade – for example, Belle ended up with black hair and brown streaks for highlights. The paper quality is about what you’d expect from a standard colouring book. I tried a variety of mediums: Crayola SuperTips and acrylic paint markers worked beautifully. Alcohol markers did bleed through, which is fairly typical, but because the reverse pages contain patterns rather than full illustrations, you don’t feel like you’re losing out on an image. The only real issue I found was with coloured pencils, where the ink from the following pages seemed to transfer slightly between the illustration and the patterned page. This can be avoided – and alcohol marker bleed reduced – by slipping a blank sheet of paper between pages while colouring. Overall, I’d give these colouring books a solid four stars. They’re perfect for children thanks to their bold, easy-to-colour designs, but they’re also a lovely option for adults who want something cute, calming, and low-pressure. If you’re looking for a relaxing, mindful colouring experience with charming Disney artwork, these are a great choice – and at £7.99, they won’t break the bank.
