Review: At nearly 4 Georgie is really into learning how to put letters together at the moment, so these alphabet foam shapes are perfect for bath time right now.
Each letter is around 3 cm tall for “short letters” and 6cm tall for “tall letters,” and they are all lowercase. All of the primary & secondary colours are included, so you can talk about colours as well as letters while you play.
There are several of each letter of the alphabet in this set so you can make lots of different words without worrying if you don’t have enough e’s. The number of them depends on the letter so more common letters have more and infrequent ones have less – it has been well thought out.
These H&A letters come with a useful storage tub – anyone with small kids will probably share my frustration about bath toy storage solutions so this is a huge plus point for me. At the end of playtime, you just scoop the letters up using the jar and then you can pop the lid on, tip it over, and the water drains out of the holes.
The letters float in the water, and when they are wet they stick to smooth surfaces like bathroom tiles or the side of the bath.
The girls have been having a lot of fun emptying the tub of letters into the bath water, and then finding the letters they want and sticking them to the tiles on the wall behind the bath. Georgie likes to make words, with us calling out what letter she needs to find next while she finds them – great practice at recognising individual letters and word formation.
I blame all her alphabet books for the request for us to spell out “xylophone” for her!
Lydia just likes to stick them on the wall and have fun trying to identify letters from the alphabet, with her big sister’s help.
Georgie loved to find all the “important” letters when we put the full alphabet on the wall – G for Georgie, M for Mummy, L for Lydia and so on. Lydia got really excited about her L!
As you can see the girls have been having loads of fun with these letters and we’ve been making bath time more educational as well has enjoyable. It’s not hard to see why this is an award winning bath toy.
At £3.30 I think this is a fantastic value product and would make an ideal birthday present for a 3 year old just getting into letters and making words. They stuck really well to the bath tiles with both girls having no problem sticking them up, which is something we’ve had problems with in the past with similar toys. You get a good selection of letters and there are loads of them packed into the handy storage tub.
We give this toy 5 stars.
