Review: One Georgie’s favourite animals is penguins, so when Valuelights asked us to pick our first review item as part of their blogger network, this novelty plastic ceiling shade was an obvious choice! Lydia is a penguin fan too, so it was bound to be very well received by both of our girls.
When we redid the girls room earlier this year, we couldn’t afford to splash out on a new lampshade for them, so they’ve been managing with a slightly bashed up & tired looking paper shade that I bought in a deal years ago. It has been a little bit of a let down in their lovely new room, so it’s great to get a new & fun one in there to help finish off the room.
The lampshade came flat packed in a cardboard box, with plastic bags protecting the different sections, and a clear sheet of instructions to put it together. Each part is listed on the instructions and assigned a letter, and it was easy to match everything up, check it was all there, and see what to do with each part.
A bit like a 3D jigsaw, the pieces slotted together in a certain order, with a small handful of plastic pegs clipping some sections together. I found it fairly easy to slot together – there were a few fiddly moments, but it was mostly a case of just following the guide and wriggling the different bits into place with a little bit of force.
After I had put it together, the shade fitted easily onto the lampshade fitting on the girls’ Gro-Light, and then the bulb slotted easily into place up inside the penguin. The bottom of the shade is left open so it is really easy to slip your arm inside to fit the shade & bulb.
Once turned on, the bulb illuminates the penguin really nicely and his eyes and chest glow with light. Their bedroom was lit up nicely whilst the light was on; the black plastic parts of the shade doesn’t really cause any problems.
The girls are both really delighted with their new penguin lamp shade, and watched excitedly as I put it together, trying to work out what it was going to be. As soon as they figured it out there was a chorus of excited squeals, and a fair bit of happy bouncing too! They are really pleased with the new addition to their bedroom.
I think that this ceiling shade is good value at less than £20, it went together quickly and without too much fuss, and the children are both absolutely chuffed with it. 5 stars, and a great start to our Valuelights ambassadorship!
