Price: £14.99

Age Range: 5 years+

Manufacturer’s Description: The magic continues as Schleich expands its magical Bayala world of elves to include additional figurines and play-sets. Little fantasy fans can explore the fairy-tale world and let their imagination run free by playing with the magical creatures.

Three new mermaids will be joining the “Meamare” underwater paradise from February: these figurines in a magical shell case are perfect for transporting and collecting. The brunette mermaid with a sparkling pink tail is always accompanied by her baby turtle. She found the turtle on a trip to a coral reef and has been looking after it ever since.

Review: The Schleich brand always makes me think of high quality models, such as zoo and farm animals, and it is great to see that they are expanding their other product ranges this year, including mermaids, unicorns, and dinosaurs. We were sent one of the new Bayala mermaids for the girls to enjoy, and it has been a big hit with them both.

In the box you get the mermaid, her light purple shell, her baby turtle, a fern, and a musical instrument. The shell and mermaid are both decorated with glitter, and the models are beautifully hand painted with a pearly sheen which makes them look really quite magical.

The mermaid can hold the turtle, the fern, and her musical instrument in her hand. The other arm can move around so she can be posed slightly,

The shell closes and opens and the mermaid and all her things fit easily inside. It’s also a great way to keep all the bits together when you’re not playing with her.

Georgie and Lydia both really like this little mermaid and her pet baby turtle. They both enjoy role play type games and we soon playing hide and seek with the turtle and the mermaid, taking them for swims through the air, and putting them in and out of the shell. It’s a lot of fun for children who enjoy imaginative games like my girls do.

These models feel great in the hand – they are made from good quality materials, are really beautiful, and well painted. The glitter detailing on the mermaid’s fin and hair are lovely touches to make her seem more fantastical, and it’s an ideally sized toy for my girls (5 and 6 years old) to play with.

I’d consider Schleich models a ‘premium’ type toy and the price of £14.99 is what I would expect for a toy of this size. It would be an ideal gift for any children who enjoy magical creatures, and I might just treat Georgie to one of the unicorns from their range for her birthday in May. We give this Schleich mermaid 5 stars.
