Rating: (4/5 stars) Review: We’re back with another review for Wicked Uncle, the online gift shop for kids of all ages, stocking all kinds of fun and unusual gifts. This time, we were sent a copy of Would You Rather? Family Edition. Would You Rather? is a classic conversation game that has been around for years. Players take it in turns to pose a choice between this or that, and everyone has to decide which option they’d choose. Of course, the hardest part of the game isn’t making your mind up – it’s thinking of a good question to ask! This card-based version takes away that challenge by giving you a box full of family-friendly Would You Rather? prompts that are guaranteed to get everyone chatting. Just like the traditional game, you can play with as many people as you like, and there’s no time limit or set number of rounds – you simply keep going until you decide to stop. There are no winners or losers either, which makes it a great choice if you have children who can get a little too competitive. When we tried it out, even our eldest teen was joining in enthusiastically & talking away, explaining her choices and why she thought she’d picked the best option. There are 200 different prompts covering a huge range of topics. Some are school-themed, plenty involve animals, while others throw you into weird and wonderful magical, alien or adventurous scenarios. Then there are the downright disgusting ones – for instance, would you rather burp every time you speak or fart every time you walk? The mix of topics keeps things feeling fresh, so the prompts never became repetitive, and there were plenty that sparked entertaining discussions. The recommended age of 5+ feels about right too. I don’t think there was anything that would need explaining to a primary school-aged child, yet our two teens still had just as much fun playing. The box also includes five blank cards so you can create your own Would You Rather? scenarios and add them into the mix. We’ve left ours blank for now, but I’m sure it won’t be long before we think of something fun to write on them. The cards themselves are colourful, easy to read, and printed in a nice bold font. Everything feels well made too – the sturdy box should stand up to plenty of family game nights, and there’s just enough room inside to slide the cards in and out without them being awkward to put away. The compact box is the perfect size for popping into a bag and taking with you on the go. It would be brilliant for holidays, restaurants, or spending time with friends. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it ends up going along with Lydia on her next sleepover, giving the girls even more to chat and laugh about. At £14.99, I do think it’s just a little on the pricey side, and that’s the only thing that knocks a star off for me. That said, it’s a genuinely entertaining game with enough variety to keep everyone amused over multiple play sessions. With 200 prompts to work through, plus the option to create your own, it’s a game we’ll come back to as a family, and one the girls can enjoy with their friends too.
