#ShoesieTuesday with Hotter

Disclosure: I was provided with a pair of shoes and a can of footwear protector in order to review the store & the shoes.

This time last week I was nibbling delicious canapés, sipping prosecco, and falling in love with a pair of shoes. Well, I tell a lie… not just one pair, but a whole shop full. I had heard of Hotter shoes before but have never ventured inside one of their shops before. I now think know I have been missing out.

My feet are awkward. There is no getting around it… since my early teenage years shoe purchasing has been an irritating problem. I have size eight feet which are wide over the bridge and narrow at the heel. This rules out so many styles of shoes for me as being ridiculously uncomfortable, and makes some other styles completely impossible to wear at all. Ballet pumps are something to be admired on other people’s feet, and never attempted on mine, for example.

Because of the difficulty for me finding shoes that fit fairly well and actually stay on my feet, I tend to wear the same sort of styles all the time and do not enjoy shoe shopping at all. I live in trainers as you can loosen the laces over the wider areas of my feet yet have them done up securely at the ankle to keep them from slopping as I walk. My experiences of shoe shopping in the past are overwhelmingly negative, having been generally a frustrating and uncomfortable slog. I once had to walk around all the city centre, going to several shops belonging to one chain, attempting to track down a pair big enough to try on – and it’s not like my feet are that drastically large!

Last week, this all changed. I had my first positive “shoe shopping” experience for several years, whilst visiting the Solihull Hotter store for their Shoesie Tuesday event. I even had a “hotter moment” when I slipped on a pair of ankle boots that fit over my wide bridge, hugged and supported my narrow ankle, and had enough length and wriggle room for my toes.

We were invited to the store to learn more about the brand, and to try to find our perfect pair of Hotter shoes to take home and review. Hotter are based in Lancashire and I was surprised to learn that they are the UK’s biggest shoe manufacturer, making a pair of shoes every 20 seconds.

Hotter have a bit of a “middle aged ladies” reputation but they are trying hard to update their range of styles and colours to be more fashion forward, with the help of their Style Ambassador, Alex Longmore. Looking around the store, I did see some shoes that I probably would consider myself too young to wear – but also many pairs that I drooled over and wanted to take home with me. I think that they probably have a great balance right now with a range of shoes that their loyal customers love, and styles that younger customers will enjoy, and wouldn’t look out of place teamed with the latest styles of clothes – not that I’m a fashion guru, mind!

There are over 71 Hotter stores and in each one you are offered the Hotter shoe fitting service; if there is a style of shoe you like, then a member of staff will get the size you need from behind the scenes and fit it to your foot. The staff that helped me at the Solihull store were experts and so helpful trying to find me a pair of the boots I liked, that fit properly. I tried on 3 or 4 different pairs before we settled on extra wide 7.5 size Pixie boots to take home.

The “Comfort Concept” that Hotter build into their shoes means that every pair is designed to be as lightweight, flexible and comfortable as possible. I will be posting my review of my new ankle boots in a few weeks, so keep an eye out for that… After a week they are feeling really comfy still, I haven’t had any problems with them rubbing or anything like that, and my feet have been happy.

I am pretty sure I’ll be headed back to the Hotter store soon for another pair of their super comfy shoes. If you are interested in purchasing a pair for yourself, you can use the code “PLATEN” for a 10% discount plus free delivery.

10% off plus FREE delivery is for first orders only.
