I love “what’s in your bag?” posts – it’s a chance to be nosy about what people choose to carry around with themselves! Pink Lining are looking for ambassadors and are inviting bloggers to share what is in their bags as their application. This post is my entry for the Pink Lining Ambassador Search.
Lydia was given a rucksack for Christmas, and so sometime around her 2nd birthday in February, I stopped using our beloved Pink Lining changing bag on an everyday basis after three years of intensive use. Lydia has now (very proudly) started carrying around her own bits and pieces. As a result of this, I have been able to go back to using a proper grown up handbag – wow!
Lydia uses a George Pig rucksack at the moment, which is starting to show some wear and tear. I have a small Radley handbag that, although lovely, is a touch small for what I need. It’s always packed to bursting!
Lydia’s bag
Inside Lydia’s bag is a huge selection of things that myself and my two year old girl think are necessary for any outing. She has…
- A handful of nappies – our favourites are Aldi Mamia nappies, and she uses a mix of their Easy Pants and Ultra Dry nappies
- Wipes – I actually prefer Tesco or Aldi as they clip shut
- Nappy bags
- Spare clothes – we aren’t quite past the need to carry around a few items of spare clothes yet
- Drink & snacks – she loves the Munchkin 360 cups and they are spill free so great for her to carry around in her bag
- Wet ones sticky fingers wipes & tissues – I keep these in the front pocket and they are great for mucky hands and runny noses, without having to dig for her baby wipes
- Toys – a selection of small toys that always includes a ball and at least one sort of soft toy.
- Baby Ewan – one of her two Ewan Snugglies can usually be found in her bag, and often one of her big ones too.
- Small sticker book and some colouring/crayons.
What’s missing? Her fold up changing mat. I think I’ll probably be able to find it abandoned on the hallway floor, she does like to unpack random items and hide them under their coat pile.
These contents will easily get us through most days, including entertainment and emergency rations! She is showing interest in potty training now so the My Carry Potty is usually slung in the bottom of the pushchair, too.
My handbag
My bag is stuffed! I carry around so much stuff these days, although to be fair I used to fit most of this inside my Pink Lining bag along with the necessities for a baby and toddler! They didn’t call me Mary Poppins for my bag packing skills at High School for nothing 😉
I carry around:
- My kindle – I love to read and will snatch 5 minutes with my head in a book whenever possible
- Wet Ones wipes – for attacking small children (and husbands) with, and perfect for impromptu picnics
- Deodorant – nobody likes to be smelly!
- A torch – I fell into this habit in the spring, when I was walking home in the dark once or twice, and haven’t taken it out since
- Spare knickers – for Georgie, not me! Just in case
- A mini puzzle book and pocket adult colouring book – for my entertainment, and perfect for journeys
- A small notebook – I never go anywhere without a notebook in my bag
- Pencil case with various pens etc in
- A small pot of bubbles – the kids love these and they can turn them from grumpy to giggling in seconds
- Hair stuff – a travel hairbrush, and bobbles & clips for both myself and Georgie
- A travel charger & cables – my iPhone 5S is nearing two years old and the battery isn’t always up to a day’s intensive use anymore – I take a lot of photos & video with it
- Penguin USB stick – you never know when you might need a flash drive, and this one is so cute!
- Fold out shopping bag – I nearly always get green clubcard points at Tesco 😉
- Tissues – I seem to have developed a mild case of hay fever so I make sure to always have some
- Mints – I hate not having any in my bag, I love to crunch on a mint
- Plasters & wound cleansing wipes – for small people ouchies
- Painkillers – ibuprofen, cocodamol & imigran, for my chronic headaches & migraines.
- Reading glasses
- My Radley purse – I bought this for £3.50 off eBay and I love it!
- My Paperchase Owl pouch containing all sorts of essentials – lip balm, nail file, hand salve, hair grips, and so on. I also keep my zolmitriptan nasal spray in here in case I get a cluster headache.
- My iPhone
What’s missing? I usually also have a small travel size kids sun lotion tube in my bag, but a certain two year old thought that her Ewan needed to be given some serious sun protection and used up the whole lot in the process.
Just a little bit of stuff! I definitely need a bigger bag… it is my 30th birthday next month after all.
