Last week my friend D messaged me offering to take the girls & I to West Midlands Safari Park for the day, as she was off for half term & had a free return ticket that was due to expire soon. The safari park do a great deal where every ticket comes with a free return ticket – based on the car reg & number of paying visitors.
Obviously I jumped at the chance, so on Wednesday the three of us were picked up and off we went to the safari park – with a very excited toddler in the back seat repeatedly & excitedly informing us we were going to “see the animals”.
Despite insisting that she was looking for a “pig (*snort*)” all the way around the 4-mile drive, Georgie loved seeing all the different animals. She was even brave enough to feed a few of the different breeds of goats & deer with the animal food you can by especially for the purpose when you arrive at the park.
There is an amazing variety of animals on show at West Midlands Safari Park, and I was proud to see how many animals Georgie can recognise now. She really enjoyed the lions & tigers, as well as being fascinated by the zebras, rhinos & cheetahs. Our stubborn little girl insisted on calling the buffalo “gruffalos” every time we saw any though!
Once we finished driving around the safari park trail, we ate lunch in the family restaurant (slightly overpriced but yummy), visited the hippos, meerkats, reptiles and lemurs, then went to watch the sea lion show. Despite the very hammy acting the sea lion tricks were wonderful! Georgie was even brave enough to walk through the darkened “twilight zone” full of bats.
The next day Georgie was still loving her safari park experience; despite being poorly and spending a lot of the day curled up under a blanket on the sofa, she spent quite a while cuddling her new soft toy Lemur, informed me her pj trousers were “stripey like a zebra” and dramatically exclaimed “ostrich bit me” once or twice too!
It was a lovely day out & I’m grateful to D for thinking of us & driving us over there! Both the girls and I enjoyed our day & D was very patient with Georgie gluing herself to her side all day long (which gave me a bit of a break!) – thanks D!
