Ad disclosure: We have been provided with a lodge and use of the facilities free-of-charge in order to review Bluestone, and paid for all additional activities, food, travel etc ourselves. This post reflects my unbiased opinion of the holiday park.
Bluestone is a completely self contained resort and, unless you want to, there is no need to leave the site at all during your stay – we didn’t! With loads to do and see, a village full of eateries and shops to cater to your every need, there is no chance of going hungry on site.
As far as food is concerned, in addition to a grocery shop on site & a fully equipped kitchen in every lodge, there are loads of places to buy & consume food on site. Bluestone try to source as much local produce as possible, and even their takeaway coffee cups are sustainably made in Wales. In the village alone there is:
- Farmhouse Grill at the Yard – a relaxed family restaurant
- Carreg Las restaurant – smart attire only & perfect for special occasions, with a no kids policy in the evenings
- The Knights Tafarn – a “traditional” Welsh pub that serves “pub grub dishes with a local twist”
- Millers Bakery – including a coffee shop
- Caffi Môr – a relaxed cafe inside The Well Spa Retreat

As well as all of these options, you can also try out Camp Smokey at the bottom of the Steep Ravine outdoor fun area, the Fish Shack at the Blue Lagoon swimming complex, and the WildWood Cafe at the Adventure Centre. You can even stay warm & cosy inside your lodge and order takeaway from the Yard.

Millers Bakery
We stopped here a few times; with & without the kids. The coffee is great, and the indulgent hot chocolate is amazing. We tried their yummy pies, delicious cakes and the girls thoroughly demolished one of their sandwiches – not to mention their ice creams. Definitely a place I would recommend, especially when it’s sunny enough to take your food outside to eat.
WildWood Cafe
We stopped at the WildWood Cafe several times during our stay at Bluestone; it was our first lunch stop when we arrived after our long drive from Birmingham, and we also ate there one evening while enjoying a dinner show. It turned out to be a great place to stop for a quick drink too – we had several nice coffees during the week, and James and I even managed a sneaky cider while the kids were downstairs in the crèche one morning.
They serve all the typical cafe food – burgers, jacket potatoes, chips, sandwiches, and so on. The kids had chicken goujons, chips & beans, and all of us enjoyed the meals we ate there.
Takeaway from The Yard
If you are after a tasty meal in your lodge with minimal effort, then you can call up for a takeaway. We ordered one to come on Wednesday night to eat with my parents on their first night with us at the lodge. Mum had lasagne, Dad a balti, James a curry, chicken for Lydia & pizza for both Georgie and myself. The delivery time was fairly quick, although they forgot Mum’s salad & we had to call them again to get it sent out.
Everyone enjoyed the food and there was enough of a selection on the menu for us all to to find something we would enjoy. It was delivered in an insulated box, which kept it hot during it’s journey to our table. My pizza was delicious!
Fish Shack at the Blue Lagoon
On Thursday morning we had a swim at the Blue Lagoon and we decided to eat lunch by the poolside at the Fish Shack. Georgie and I started off with a kit kat and a drink while the rest of the family finished up their swim, before we enjoyed some fish & chips. The fish bites were yummy (although a little too much batter to fish ratio for my taste) and the kids enjoyed their fish fingers.

Oh wow, you ate out so much! We had lunch at the fish shack last time we went but didn’t really manage to go anywhere else as T was only 6 months. We’re going in May and willd efinitely be trying to food options! x
It was part;y because my parents were with us – they treated us to the dinner show and we got in a takeaway the day they arrived, to make it easier all around.
The fish shack meal was because we ran out of time having too much fun swimming to go back to the lodge for lunch before an activity we had booked! We ate at Wild Wood on arrival as we couldn’t get to our lodge for 4 hours and the kids needed feeding, and at the bakery on Friday because we were staying on site till 3pm and had to be out of the lodge at 10am.
that place looks great!
