Sometimes, I think that Homily is quite possibly the Stupidest Dog in the World. She forgets how to do simple things on a daily basis, and will quite often even forget to go and have a drink for hours on end, and then just have a gigantic one at the end of the day, as if she has suddenly realised she is parched. “Idiot Dog” is a commonly uttered phrase in the Mama Geek household.

Homily is a Norwich Terrier|, and is named after the character in Mary Norton’s Borrowers series. And yes, she does have a daughter named Arriety! Don’t get me wrong, we love her very very much… she is just a bear with very little brain!
As well as winning prizes for stupidity, she could probably win prizes for her laziness. However, even she is starting to get bored of the enforced cage rest she has been on for the past week & a bit after falling off the bed a few weekends ago. Our new bed is higher than our old one, and she went flying off the end and landed really badly on her back legs. The whole thing was a bit scary and we all had terrible scenarios running through our head when she wouldn’t put any weight on it at all for over 24 hours – she had to have her leg x-rayed and we are very lucky that there was nothing worse than a bad sprain.

How very lucky we are that James’s mother Ruth is a vet (and indeed, bred Homily herself), and so our vet bill consisted of fish & chips for Ruth and a box of chocolates for everyone at the practice to share! James practically grew up at that veterinary surgery and Ruth still works some shifts there, so he is always welcomed back with smiles by the staff.
Just over a week later, however, the stupid dog has completely forgotten that she hurt herself so badly, and is running round like a mad thing whenever she is allowed out of the confines of her cage. She has even jumped up on the sofas a few times which is not going to help matters! We haven’t let her go up or down the stairs yet, and she is not supposed to be jumping up on the bed (although she did last night, oopsie!), and the poor dog is getting very frustrated with her confinement.
Georgie seems to think the whole thing is very amusing, and keeps going to visit the dog in her cage. She has even shared a few of her snacks with her, passing them through the bars to an incredibly grateful dog. Did I mention Homily was possibly the greediest dog in the world? No? Well, she is. It’s not unknown for the Idiot Dog to make herself ill by eating things she shouldn’t… she once ate an entire box of Jelly Babies which made her really ill, and there was another occasion with moulding pizza crusts which I won’t go into!

As well as giving the dog titbits, Georgie has also taken to standing next to the cage while she bangs something on the bars. As the dog is usually asleep until the first BANG I can’t help but think these visits aren’t quite as welcome as those involving food! She was doing this with Homily’s metal food bowl a few days ago, and I couldn’t help but think of those scenes in old movies where the prisoners rattle their metal cups up & down the bars.
This morning, our little scamp Georgiana had obviously decided that the dog has been shut away too long, as she crawled over to the cage and promptly unlatched the door! She proceeded to open it and slam it shut on Homily’s head a few times, whilst looking very proud of her achievement, until the poor dog (who really does take a lot of abuse from our child but puts up with it like a saint) managed to squeeze past her and make her escape. A jailbreak!!

Ahhhhhh she's too cute!!!
Thank you! She is adorable, if a bit (ok, a lot!) thick!
