We were invited to Warwick Castle earlier this month to join in with the celebrations for the new Mike the Knight film, Journey to Dragon Mountain. To celebrate the DVD release, which I reviewed on my blog this morning, Mike the Knight and his sister Evie are visiting the Castle to get young children practising “The Chilvarous Code”.
In keeping with the storyline of the film, they had a Dragon there too! Visitors to the castle are being challenged to take a #DragonSelfie – would you be brave enough?! Georgie jumped out of her skin when the dragon roared at them as they were meeting Mike the Knight.
We had great fun taking part in all of the activities – Georgie did some colouring, threw beanbags at targets, knocked down cans, took part in her first ever hobby horse race and tried to master the diabolo. She enjoyed that last one so much that we’ve bought one to go under the Christmas tree.
A highlight of the Mike the Knight area was the building blocks, to build your own Castle Glendragon. James, Georgie and I build a tower with Georgie in the middle while Lydia looked on and laughed – along with a lot of amused passers-by! Evie appeared throughout the day to perform magic tricks for the children. Georgie was amazed by her magic colouring book.
One of the Mike the Knight activities is the Dragon Egg Hunt and we decided to try to find all of the eggs. This was really brilliant as the quiz questions take you all over the castle grounds and we saw areas like the rose garden that we’ve never visited before. It was a lovely way to explore, and Georgie loved trying to spot the eggs and telling me what the letters for each one was.
The final egg is in a bit of a silly place though as it’s a tough climb for little legs and so I had to carry Georgie up lots of steps. The view was worth the effort, and Georgie was so pleased to have found the final egg. It’s not a suitable walk for pushchairs though, so you have to leave them behind and carry your little ones up – in our case James and Lydia waited for us.
Hopefully the final egg location is still a bit of a mystery after that paragraph, I don’t want to ruin the hunt!
We really enjoyed exploring the castle; the grounds and buildings are beautiful. We ate lunch at the restaurant, where the all you can eat pizza & pasta is great value and very tasty. Georgie found a dusty hill to roll down and a tree to climb, and we explored the mill exhibition.
Our day was finished off with a visit to the fantastic Pageant Playground, which is packed with slides, swings, climbing frames and other play equipment.
