Rating: (5/5 stars) Review: With both girls about to return to school, it’s that time of year when new stationery is needed to get them ready for the new school year. Pen Heaven sent over a beautifully wrapped selection of their new Legami and LEGO ranges for the girls to use, and we’ve been delighted with the new goodies – there’s nothing quite like that new stationery feeling! We were sent two sets of Legami gel pens: four animal-themed erasable gel pens and three summery novelty-shaped pens. The four animal-themed pens feature a panda, cat, teddy bear, and corgi. They’re all 0.7mm gel pens with conical tip nibs that are really comfortable to hold and write with. Each pen has a short phrase on the barrel, and they are all super cute. The teddy bear pen uses red ink, while the other three designs have black ink – the colour is marked on the pen so you can tell which pen is which colour. These thermosensitive erasable pens are a delight to use. The ink erases easily with the friction eraser on the end of the pen, eliminating the need for tippex or scribbling. The pens use refills, so you can extend their life by purchasing the right type from Penheaven. While writing, the caps clip over the eraser to keep them safe. The novelty-shaped pens are 0.5mm in nib thickness, slightly thinner than the animal pens. However, the ink on these pens is not erasable. All three pens use black ink, which flows smoothly from the needle tip. These pens appear to use standard refills, with the ‘Hello Summer’ ice lolly pen using a slightly different shape refill compared to the cactus & watermelon pens. Despite their slightly unconventional shapes, these pens are comfortable to hold and enjoyable to use. Each pen is smooth to the touch at the barrel point. Unfortunately, the caps don’t have any clip-on points due to their shapes, but the fun factor of the pens makes up for this minor disappointment. I particularly like the fact that the ice lolly pen has a real wood lolly stick. The LEGO notebook and pen are gorgeous. The front and back hard covers are embossed with LEGO brick detailing, and it cleverly ‘locks’ closed using the LEGO plates built into the pen and notebook covers. It has 384 fine-lined ivory pages, just over 6 inches square, using FSC-certified paper. An integrated elastic band on the back cover can be used as either a bookmark or to secure the notebook closed without the pen. The endpapers at the beginning and end of the notebook feature beautiful LEGO patent-type illustrations. There’s also space at the start of the notebook for you to add your name or notebook title, as well as the lovely quote “Trust your instinct” (which is actually from the LEGO Movie and the first step to being a Master Builder… “unless your instincts are terrible”, of course.). This notebook comes with a gel pen that has a 0.7mm conical tip nib. You can replace the refill if you need to, as some online shops sell them. There’s also a black ink refill cleverly hidden inside the back cover lego section. The ink isn’t erasable, but it’s more long-lasting and won’t fade over time like some erasable ink does. The red notebook comes with red gel ink, but you can also get it in blue or yellow from Pen Heaven, both with matching coloured gel pens. They also sell multi-packs of the LEGO gel pens in various colours. The pen writes smoothly, but the only negative I have is that the square-shaped barrel isn’t the most comfortable shape to hold. However, it’s not as bad as I expected, thanks to the soft comfort grip. At least the square design means it won’t roll away. The pen’s cap clips onto the end of the barrel to keep it safe while you’re writing, and the LEGO plates built into the barrel allow you to even have your favourite minifig standing on your pen as you write! Lydia says: This collection of stationary is not only practical, but also has a very cute theme with various adorable animals on the pen caps and other summery pens. I also love the fact that most of the pens are erasable, which I love as I don’t particularly like pencils but find it very useful to erase my writing/drawing. The Lego notebook is also well designed, especially the spare ink stored inside, and incredible detail. I think it’s awesome how the pen isn’t just a pen, but also keeps the notebook closed, which makes it easier to not lose it! I also like how a few of the pens have red ink, as having two colours can be very practical. Overall, it’s a wonderful collection of stationery and I will definitely use them when I go back to school in September.
