With the house move in a few weeks, we are trying to make the most of evenings & weekends while we are both in the house, to do as much sorting & packing as possible. With this goal in mind, this morning we packed up Georgie’s bags & James dropped her off at his Mum’s to stay the night.
It is amazing how much stuff one little girl requires for one overnight stay! She has taken her (on loan) my first readybed and pump, Bigjigs rucksack full of nappy change supplies, trunki with clothes, toys & books, pushchair, big nct bag stuffed with her pillow, essential sleepy time toys & eating implements, and of course her Gruffalo rucksack with her out & about things in. Whoa, that’s a long list!
We’ve just had an email from Ruth and thankfully she has behaved herself all day & gone to bed like a good girl. I’m so pleased that her first day/night staying away from home on her own is going well.
As for us, we have been able to get loads done already, and have tomorrow morning to crack on some more before she is dropped back in the afternoon. We are at a wedding on Friday & busy on Saturday, so we don’t actually have a lot of free days together at home before the move, and I am kept busy in the daytime with the two girls.
Georgie’s room is largely packed up, with her shelves dismantled & almost all her toys & stuff packed away. Clothes are the easiest thing to pack so we’ll do that later on. We have left her trunki toy box packed with toys & books in there, so she won’t be going completely without for the next few weeks!
As well as pretty much packing up all of Georgie’s room, we have done *loads* of sorting and packing in our spare room. Anyone who has ever stayed with us will testify that our spare room has a ridiculous amount of stuff stored in there, plenty of which we just don’t need anymore. We have been brutal today! My jigsaws have survived the day though, yay.
Sorting everything out thoroughly before moving is taking a lot of time, but we have got rid of so much rubbish and I feel so much better after today! We have been accumulating things for years and have never really had to get rid of anything, so this house move is a great excuse to have a huge sort out.
It’s been really strange not having Georgie in the house, especially at mealtimes and in the evening, when she is usually really playful and fun. I didn’t get my bedtime kiss! Having the house be a Georgie-free zone is incredibly odd, but has been very useful! Even with Lydia to look after we have been so much more productive than we would have been otherwise.
Here’s hoping tomorrow goes as well as today! We’re both going to be absolutely shattered by the end of our long weekend, but it is definitely worth it. I am in love with our new house, and very much out of love with this one!

I’m “getting rid” of Toby next Saturday! Sara and her boyfriend Luke are taking him for the night so I can have a night out for a friends “leaving for America” party. I’m excited as it’s the first time I’ve been out with everyone for a year but horribly nervous as it’s the first time!!!
Ooh good luck! We have gone out & had other people put her to bed before, both at home and away, but she’s never spent a night at someone else’s house without us! It’s really weird, and will be even stranger tomorrow morning I expect!
