A few days ago my dad had a pretty awful headache, and so I tried my best to keep the kids out of his way to let him rest. In the morning we were busy playing with Georgie’s new Nancy doll, and then in the afternoon, once Lydia was safely down for her nap, I asked Georgie whether she would like to do some baking.
Well, Georgie very rarely says no to baking, and this was no exception! Lydia had a marvellous 4 hour nap, and Georgie and I rolled up our sleeves and got stuck in.
We made chocolate cupcakes, little Victoria sponge cakes, and a big batch of basic biscuits.
The chocolate cupcakes were Georgie’s pick, but I felt bad that my Dad wouldn’t be able to enjoy any of the fruits of our labour if we just stuck to chocolate, and so we started off with some plain sponge cakes for Dad to enjoy. We added a good splash of blue food colouring to the mix, because Georgie is two and it’s exciting for toddlers when things are randomly colourful.
Mum and Dad have a variety of small silicon moulds so Georgie was delighted to serve her Grandad an oddly-coloured teddy bear cake with his afternoon cup of tea. Of course, she then proceeded to help him eat it, but what else can you expect from a two year old cake enthusiast?!
The biscuits went a bit funny… Georgie has gone from being terrified of electric mixers to wanting to being in complete control of them. I think the biscuit dough took a bit more of a battering than it really needed! We also had to handle them a lot when rolling out (over and over) so I think it was a bit overworked. They taste nice enough though… a bit floury maybe? Oh, well. Georgie thinks they’re yummy.
During our afternoon of baking Georgie informed me, and then told her Grandad, that she was “having great fun!” and that is the important thing after all. The cakes are very yummy, and eating them seems to be a very messy process for certain small members of this household!
We’ve been doing loads of baking together too, I think the process is much more important than the finished product, but yours look yum!
Hehe thanks. Georgie loves my parents old style scales, as she is in charge of telling me when the two sides balance! She is fascinated by the weights too.

We were at it for hours! There is something very comforting about baking I think, and the end results are very rewarding 😉
