On our way back from the wedding we recently attended in Wales, we decided to drive into Swansea to find somewhere to eat and explore. We had some time to kill, the sun was shining after a night of heavy rainfall, and the girls needed to stretch their legs & tire themselves out for the rest of the journey home.
We drove fairly aimlessly, following signs to the centre of Swansea, and then towards the beaches, driving along the waterfront until we found a pub we liked the look of, a fun play area, and a stretch of sandy beach for the kids to play on. The girls had a great time running around the beach, investigating and collecting treasures, and piling up mounds of sand before decorating them with pebbles and shells.
Further down the beach there seemed to be some sort of odd rubber duck race, or something, going on. Whatever it was, it involved a large group of people and lots of bright yellow rubber ducks. They were being thrown around, caught, and thrown around again. Goodness knows what they were actually doing, but it looked like they were having fun!
Although we didn’t have time to go on it (stomachs were beginning to rumble!), the kids enjoyed watching the land train go past.
With all the rainfall overnight, Lydia just couldn’t resist the puddles… It was a good thing I put their wellies in the car to wear if needed on the journey home, as she had a good splash before lunch!
I think we brought half of the beach back with us in the kid’s wellies, not to mention a good handful of precious treasures. It was a lovely way to break up the journey while enjoying some fresh air, and getting to see a little part of a place we haven’t been to before. If the weather had been better, I would have been tempted to let the kids have a splash about in the Black Pill lido, which looked fantastic fun. Perhaps we will be back another day and can explore more then.
