Horrible Histories – The Concert – Theatre Review

★★★★★ Yesterday evening, James and I headed into Birmingham city centre with Lydia and one of her best friends to see Horrible Histories – The Concert at the Alexandra Theatre.

Perfect for fans of any age who love the Horrible Histories books or TV series, this “Live (and Dead)!” concert brings together a huge range of historical figures, each performing their most popular songs from the show’s 17-year history.

Urinetown the Musical – GMTG – Theatre Review

★★★★☆ Yesterday evening, Lydia and I headed over to the Guild of Students at Birmingham Uni to check out GMTG’s (Guild Musical Theatre Group) amateur production of Urinetown the Musical.

Slava’s Snow Show – Theatre Review

★★★★☆ It’s hard to put into words the show James & I attended at the Alexandra last night, but I can assure you we left the theatre having thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Slava’s Snow Show is a Russian “performance of fools,” featuring a troupe of peculiar clowns who take to the stage to entertain and bewilder the audience in equal measure.

The Boy With Wings – Theatre Review

★★★★☆ Yesterday, I took Lydia and two of her school friends to the Birmingham Rep Studio Theatre to see The Boy With Wings. This co-production from the Rep and Polka Theatre is based on the book of the same name by Sir Lenny Henry and is aimed at ages 7-12.

West Side Story – Stage Experience – Theatre Review

★★★★☆ Each year, The Alexandra runs a two-week intensive masterclass of theatre that culminates in three days of performances. Young performers between the ages of 9 and 24 can apply to take part in Stage Experience, dedicating a fortnight of their summer to putting on a musical. This year, the chosen musical was West Side Story, and James and I attended its first performance yesterday evening.

The Last Laugh – UK Tour – Theatre Review

★★★★★ Back in 2016, Paul Hendy wrote, directed, and produced a twenty-minute short film called “The Last Laugh.” The film imagines a meeting between three British comedy greats in a theatre dressing room. Last year, this was adapted into a stage play and stole the show at the Edinburgh Fringe. It has since moved to the West End, New York, and is now on a UK Tour. James and I were lucky enough to attend the press night at The Alexandra in Birmingham last night, where we were thoroughly entertained for an evening.
