Welcome to the first of my week of Christmas gift guides! I’ll be sharing a different set of gift ideas every day this week, each one aimed at different themes and interests.
First up, rather appropriately for this blog all about our geeky family, are some gift ideas for the geeks in your life this Christmas.

He has been very quickly claimed by the girls and is now living on the side in their room, glowing gently throughout the dark nights as their new night light. Powered by either three AAA batteries or micro-usb, Darth Vader stands around 25cm tall and is a fun mood light.

This iBeani is a cool little bean bag for your tablet device, which helps you keep it in the position you want, hands free on your lap (or other surface). James has been using it every night in bed as he likes to watch YouTube videos in bed on his iPad, and I’ve used it a few times on my lap when playing games using a games controller. It’s actually been really useful so far, and it has a handy pocket on the side too, which you can use to keep a small accessory like headphones or a power cable in.
iPhone 11 Pro Hard Case*

This iPhone 11 Pro Hard Case from Wrappz is one that I ordered for James, and we are both pleased with how it came out – it’s a really slimline case on the phone, and it fits perfectly. The print quality is nice too, and while this particular case isn’t super duper protective, they do a whole range of cases that include tough ones, for all types of phones and devices.

Chattyfeet Science Socks Gift Set*

This Chattyfeet Science Socks Gift Set is a fun gift idea for any science geeks – and what’s more traditional than socks at Christmas?! While I do think the price is a little high, they are lovely soft socks, and fun novelty designs featuring four different scientists, complete with pun-tastic packaging in the form of an attractive gift box.
Disney Marvel Face Masks*

Mad Beauty sent over one of their Marvel Face Masks for me to try out – I love the packaging on this one, featuring the Hulk. They also do a Spider-Man face mask in their Marvel range, as well as lots of different Disney characters and Star Wars designs. I’m looking forward to relaxing whilst looking more than slightly ridiculous with this on!
Captain America: Dark Designs*

I love to read, so I’m looking forward to getting stuck into this Marvel Universe novel Captain America: Dark Designs by Stefan Petrucha. Captain America is one of my favourite Marvel heroes – and this story features one of the best bad guys too, the Red Skull. There’s nothing quite like curling up with a good book on a cold winter evening.

From the latest range from HEXBUG, this Box Sumo Battle Ring looks like a lot of fun for geeks of all ages – who doesn’t love playing with these tiny robots? With Box Sumo, you get to dress up the HEXBUG nanos in sumo wrestler ‘outfits’ which then battle it out with their vibration powered movement. I can see this being a lot of fun on Christmas morning!

iFixit Pro Tech Toolkit*

This iFixit Pro Tech Toolkit has pretty much everything you need to repair a computer or mobile device. We are going to be installing a new hard drive in my work computer soon, and it will certainly be handy for getting into the awkward corners of the small case to screw it into place.
The kit includes the iFixit Jimmy, 3 opening tools and 6 picks made of soft plastic, 2 plastic spudgers, one metal spudger, a small suction cups, a antistatic wristband and a two pairs of ESD safe tweezers, as well as a magnetic bit driver made from anodized aluminium with 64 bits, grooved handle and a swivel top as well as a flexible 150mm extension.

For the DC fans, check out the Suicide Squad Harley Quinn Icon Light from Paladone. They have a whole range of different characters of Icon Lights over on their website, but we chose this one cos it’s so darn cute and she is probably by favourite DC villain. Harley Quinn stands at around 10cm tall and lights up powered by two AAA batteries.
Seneo wireless charging stand

James has just come back to the dark side by switching from Android to Apple, and is loving his new iPhone 11 Pro and Apple Watch. I got him this Seneo wireless charging stand as an early Christmas present, so that he can just pop his new gadgets down on the stands and they will charge with magic wireless charging technology.
It comes with a USB power cable, but you need to buy your own quick charge power adapter, and use your own Apple Watch charger too – this plugs into the base and the wire is coiled up and hidden away in a compartment underneath. He likes it so much I’m probably going to buy another one for myself, as my wires are driving me mad.
LEGO Star Wars

Lastly, here are the LEGO Star Wars sets I am giving James this year! Hopefully he’s not reading this… anyway, he has a collection of these microfighters hanging from the ceiling and I picked up these two sets (Sith Infiltrator” Microfighter and Naboo Starfighter” Microfighter) from the Discovery Centre last time we were in there. James enjoys the LEGO Star Wars sets, and has various medium sized sets as well as his microfighter collection. He’d love one of the really huge sets but we don’t have the space or the funds for that! Maybe one day…
