Croaking along

Home Chit Chat Croaking along

We came back from Cornwall at the start of the month, bringing with us a horrible chest cold which hung around both James & I for almost a week.

I felt ok for maybe one or two days, thankfully one of which was my brother’s wedding… The day afterwards, though, I started to exhibit cold & flu symptoms again, with a couple of really bad days last week. Thankfully, the worst of the flu-like symptoms are over now, and my limbs have stopped aching like mad.

Unfortunately, I still have a lingering bad cough and sore throat, which is making me extremely croaky. I wish it would hurry up and go away! I feel very bunged up and quite deaf too.

One of the worst things about breastfeeding is having to be so much more careful with the medications you take. Decongestants are a no-no; in fact almost all cough & cold medication is not allowed. I have been resorting to soothing drinks, and baby cough syrup!

I have decided I will be paying to get the flu vaccine this year; I want to avoid as many bugs as possible & definitely found it effective the winters that I had it when I was pregnant. The dehydration I’ve been suffering from the last few weeks has affected my milk supply a little, so I want to avoid getting ill again if I can. I can’t help thinking it would be a smart move to offer it to breastfeeding mums for exactly this reason, especially as most breastfeeding mums have young babies who will benefit from their mums being vaccinated.

I’ve been sent some of the Clarks Maple range to review, and have been combining maple syrup with hot water and lemon juice to make a natural remedy. Lemon juice is great to boost vitamin C and is antibacterial, which makes it great for combating a sore throat. This type of drink is traditionally made with honey, but I like it with maple syrup too – and you can give a child under one this combination, whereas they are not allowed honey.

I’m so pleased I managed to do so much of the work for my giveaways last month & before Michael’s wedding, as I have been feeling so wiped out and not up to much more than trying to care for the kids & attempt some minimal housework… I can only apologise to anyone waiting for blog posts for particular products or topics, I am working through the to-do list now so that’s good!

I’ve been taking lots of photos and video of our adventures over the last month that I want to share too, so I’m hoping to get some good blogging time in over the next few days.
